Quote:
Following the release of their debut single ‘Veronica’s Veil’, Fan Death have returned with a brand new EP, A Coin for the Well. The duo Dandi and Marta have achieved something unusual with this disc – an individual record, but commercial enough to secure its mainstream success. Imagine a more disco-ey Bat For Lashes without the pretentious artiness. Yet having said that, a quick trawl of Youtube presents a fantastical and bizarre video for the EP’s opening track ‘Reunited’. Synth-laden disco pop with some funky strings and brass to boot (listen out for the violins three-and-a-half minutes into ‘Power Surge’), this is an easily likeable record.

The songs have great hooks, are repetitive without becoming boring, and, best of all, know when to stop - ‘The Son Will Rise’ seems to end without warning, but at exactly the right time. A Coin for the Well is a well-balanced mix of the optimistic and the brooding – see track four, ‘Soon’, and the darker flashes opening ‘The Son Will Rise’.

interesting cover...

Kritian Matsson is a Swedish singer songwriter who sounds uncannily like early Bob Dylan. In 2008, he was the main support for Bon Iver’s US tour. In that same year, he released his debut album, Shallow Grave, to near universal critical acclaim. I haven’t been able to give this new album a listen yet, as I just downloaded it a few minutes ago, but if the debut is any indicator, this album is sure to become a favorite for many of our readers. Also, be sure to make it out to one of his shows this spring, as he’s making the rounds throughout most of the United States.

This album is scheduled to be released by Dead Oceans on April 13, 2010.

Pretty easy to find out, I would think.
(Although support, via legal download and CD purchases is always appreciated, as I spent $2500 of my own cash to produce this thing.)
