see, i knew rparis74 had better taste in music than you 2.

Surfer Blood sounds like a high school garage band trying to play Weezer and failing. I'm not sure what obners, who claim to appreciate "groundbreaking" music, see in this.

coming from the guy who likes Japandroids. cmon.

Not ragging on you, Shiv, but when I saw this album cover, I went digging on another forum for my "mini-review" of it in August 2003:

Dear Ed,

Get out of bed now. Don't wait for Mum to roust you like every other day of your life. Get dressed. Go to the City Employment Center and get a job. With some perseverance and a lot of luck, you can probably make a decent tail-gunner on a trash truck. For the love of all that is good and kind and creative and intelligent in this ragged-a$$ world, please never go near a recording studio again. Promise me.

And in response to a subsequent question about whether I'd heard his debut:

Haven't heard anything from the 1st, but it's hard to believe it was any more mature two years ago than this flaccid goober. Don't pay money for it- I'll fix ya up with it the next time I go to the post office. Cut-and-paste music style, reminds me of something, in the vein of...uhhh...no, just in vain, period. The lyrics would be egregiously embarrassing if found in a junior high school newspaper's poetry corner....

" If I could only see straight
I wouldn't be lonely these days
I'd drag my body out of this place.
And every Sunday I sleep and pray that my soul will keep
I'll sit in the river and let the water creep

BITTERSWEET HEART BITTERSWEET HEART
Yo've been good to me
BITTERSWEETHEART BITTERSWEET HEART
You've been good to me

Well I've traveled around the earth
and still I wonder if I'm the first
human being who questions his worth
And every word that you speak
makes my heart sing when it's weak
for often this outlook is bleak"

Too horrible. I have to go wash my hands after typing that.

I got it out of my house in less than 3 days, as I recall.

There's a subtle difference in failing gloriously and just failing.

Let Them Eat Jellybeans

Classic Punk compilation. Tracks by Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Feederz, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains. Hell, it's a who's who of early 80s punk stuff. Sadly out of print, but a fantastic document of the era.

Repo Man Soundtrack

More 80s nostalgia. Another punk leaning compilation, this one a soundtrack. A few cool tracks from the Plugs, including Hombre Secreto, their Spanish language remake of Secret Agent Man. Also had a fun, acoustic lounge style version of the Circle Jerks, When the Shit Hits the Fan. Iggy Pop turns in a nice performance with the title track.

You don't want to look in there.
