Right now they are a seven seed and allegedly moving up, I just didn't bother to include them this time around

Then Lunardi is an asshat and being VERY generous. That's the highest you can find them anywhere on the internet. I've seen them as low as a 12 seed BEFORE last night's loss. I think the prevailing consensus is if they beat Va Tech at home and get a 1st round win in the ACC tourney they're in but that's anything but a given.

The only big wins I see on their resume are Duke and Maryland. They've got some bad losses though; Georgia, Miami, Virginia and they split with middle of the pack ACC Wake and lost BOTH to middle of the pack FSU.

I actually think their overwhelming physical talent can allow them to do some damage in the tourney and get them to the 2nd weekend but I fail to look coldly at their current resume and see how they deserve to get in. Especially if they lose this weekend where Va Tech is also desperately looking for a win. I also think an important stat to look at when predicting tourney success is road wins...........Tech is 1-7 on the road in conference.

I don't really care but I do enjoy their misery.

Seriously, has any coach done less with with NBA talent than Paul Hewitt.

If they miss the tourney he may very well be gone.

My friend (a Tech fan), enlightened me a week or so ago to just how bad he is with the talent he gets.

Quote:
in the past 5 years

we have recruited 6 top 20 players

only kansas and unc have recruited better in the same time frame

and they have won 3 titles

we have 1 ncaa tourney win

They put up a stat last night that they're 6-34 on the road in the ACC in the last 5 years.

It's crazy. The best part is that Hewitt's buyout is 7 million. LOL.

WOW.

Also, Paul Hewitt has one winning ACC season in 10 while Oliver Purnell at Clemson has 3 straight.

I saw this photo on Look at this Fucking Hipster a few moments ago. It encapsulates nearly everything this thread and board has to offer.

Terrrrrps. Yeah, that was a quality win, and it comes over a team I despise. Both WVU and MD in the dance....h'oh boy. MD could move way up in the seeds if they do well or win the ACC tourney. Not bad for a team that was considered DOA at the beginning of the season. Gary Williams must be giving them some great pep talks.

WHatever, he has to play two brothers to keep the rednecks from beating the brakes off of him outside the gates of the Fieldhouse.

Saw him Friday night at the end of the bench in street clothes.

a little surprised that Dook remains #4. they are certainly not deserving of a #1 seed, regardless of whether they win the ACC tourney or not.

I think that thirty point beat down of rival UNC helped their cause a bit, after losing to a Maryland team with a hot streak on the road. Had the Terps swept the season series, I'd understand dropping the Blue Devils a peg, but they are tied for the ACC lead and Duke won by a larger margin in the first meeting at Durham.

The problem is that there aren't four worthy #1's ('Cuse, Kentucky, Kansas and ???) nor are there 8 teams that should be 1-2's so Duke will probably end up a 1 by default.

I was going to refrain from posting the Bracketology after Gonzaga lost last night, but since Saint Mary's was already penciled in, here it is:

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology

MIDWEST
1 Kansas vs Lehigh
8 UNLV vs Marquette
5 Temple vs Georgia Tech
4 Vanderbilt vs Kent State
3 Pittsburgh vs Oakland
7 Texas vs Clemson

EAST
Kentucky vs Play-in
8 Oklahoma State vs Notre Dame
5 Maryland vs Arizona State
4 BYU vs Illinois
3 Michigan State vs Sam Houston
2 West Virginia vs Vermont

WEST
1 Duke vs East Tennessee State
3 Villanova vs Wofford
7 Missouri vs Wake Forest

SOUTH
1 Syracuse vs Quinnipiac
5 Gonzaga vs Siena
4 Wisconsin vs Murray State
2 Kansas State vs UC Santa Barbara

Last Four In

* Memphis
* Arizona State
* San Diego State
* Illinois

First Four Out

* Washington
* Seton Hall
* Rhode Island
* Ole Miss

Next Four Out

* Dayton
* UAB
* Mississippi State
* Minnesota

Lastly, I need to throw a shout out to the Husker Women's Hoops team for finishing 29-0. They are the first Big 12 team to ever go unbeaten throughout the entire regular season, although the 2005-2006 Oklahoma Sooner's also went unbeaten in conference play.

Exactly, every one is holding their breath on how the Big Ten finishes before giving them one. As Lunardi said on Sunday Night, these will probably hold because it is a relatively weak field this year with most of the bubble teams squandering their chances late in the season. He said it was a terrible year to bring up tournament expansion.
