Latest is theatre is giving refunds and/or rescheduling if there is a State of Emergency in MD. Its gonna happen, its just when. NoVA has already declared, so MD can't be far behind.

i was a little upset that they're here the same night as japandroids, but now i see they're most likely set for lolla. and i've always liked them best at festivals anyway when they have confined time frames and don't bloat their sets forever and a half.

www.archive.org has a really great show, amazing sound quality for 1/30/10 at the Jupiter Club in Alabama.

Better sound than the 40 Watt shows IMO.

With a cover of Kiss' "Strutter" sung by the $*&!)^& Stroker Ace !

Up for pre-order. I just pre-ordered the vinyl+cd+download. Got 2 new songs downloaded--Birthday Boy and Workin' This Job (single edit)

Man, I wanted to spring for the deluxe, but I'm already seeing them a bunch, and how many times am I gonna flip through the book? Shipping on the vinyl was $12, so I can't even imagine what the shipping on the deluxe is...

Can't see the advantage of ordering online...$42 for the regular vinyl? Will probably be half of that in most stores.

Probably. But I don't have any stores around me that will carry it. Plus, it comes with the cd version as well.

Yeah, I think the store-bought version will too though. Or at least that's how it was for Patterson's solo album.

Could very well. Its either I order if from Amazon, I order it from the band, or wait til I see them in April. Figured this was as good as anything, and I'm buying it straight from the band.

I finally was able to give the new album a proper listen last night, and that three-song run of "The Fourth Night of My Drinking," "Birthday Boy" and "Drag the Lake, Charlie" is killer! This whole album is their best overall since at least The Dirty South, as there's not a single clunker to be found (not even when Shonna's at the mic).

In fact, I was highly impressed with her two songs. On the last album they definately had to grow on me. On this one, they were immediate favorites.

Listened to this in its entirety yesterday. Well, almost. There were a couple songs I couldn't get through, but one complete listen means I've already spent more time with this one than Brighter Than Creation's Dark. Sounds like they're at least trying to alter the tempo a bit. Main complaint right now is there's too much slide guitar - I'll live with it for a while and see if it continues to grow.

Opening three were strong, Shonna's stuff stood out, and the rest was a jumble. I'll try again later.

Patterson interviewed by Gibson

The Gibson Interview Wrote:
Gibson: I understand you tune down a whole step. Does that have to do with your vocal range, with playing in a key that’s more suitable for your voice?

PH: It probably started out that way. Cooley and I started doing that back in the ’80s — in our previous band, Adam's House Cat — and just kept doing it. My vocal range has actually grown considerably, but tuning down still takes the guitars down to a sludgy place that we really like. It sounds more primal and scary, and puts the vocals that much above it all. I guess I like the “wrongness” of it, especially.

They gotta do something with all the whiskey bottles they're slurpin' down.

Nah, that's actually kinda a cool point with me. John Neff is really talented and sometimes I feel like he's turned down live. His pedal and slide is amazing.

I still haven't listened to this other than the officially sent to me mp3s and what I've heard live. I'm holding out til my vinyl hits my hands, which should be any day now since it shipped.

This is my least favorite album by them thus far. With the exception of a couple tracks, Patterson's songs are undistinguishable from each other.

It took FOREVER for Brighter Than... to click with me. This one is more immediate. I'm a massive fan of Blessing and a Curse, which I know had a lukewarm reaction here as well.

I need to burn this to disc and put it in my car to give a real listen to it. I can't wait to see them live next month. I'm sure it'll help these songs (which aren't too bad in the first place).

BTCD was definitely a grower after the first 1/4 of the record. I think the sheer size of the record made it pretty daunting. There's a lot of good stuff on there though, that I definitely didn't discover the first, second, or even third listenings.

I have a feeling "The Flying Wallendas" is going to be this album's "The Opening Act" aka an atmospheric slow burner that I love and GAR hates.
