Short notice I know. I forgot to post it sooner.

Our band (Bird Sounds) is playing at Ronny's Tomorrow Night
2101 N California Ave - Logan Square, Chicago IL

I don't know cost and shit or if I can guestlist you ...but PM me your name and phone number and I'll text that shit to you.

It's a vinyl release party for the Brokedowns - New Brains For Everyone, originally released on CD in 2007.

This version has brand new art by me. (Because I lost the original art)

I will see how the schedule looks for tomorrow, because I would LOVE to be there.
I am forwarding the info to a friend, too, who I know will love the band.

It is short notice, but I am hoping to go.

If I don't make it... have a great show.

I wouldn't think that it would be a scam.
But now, I am suspicious!

I'm 80% there... if anyone else is going, look for me.
I'll be the loser standing alone in the corner.

So, I went.
With the time change and the fact that the kids wake me pretty early, even on Sundays, I left early. But I saw Matt's band: Bird Sounds
They were excellent.

I feel like a dork for telling Matt that their drummer was "off the hook" (God I hate that expression), but those words did pass my lips, damnit. Probably because it was true.. their drummer is a monster.

And the whole band was great for that matter. If you dig hardcore, I would strongly recommend checking them out.

The live show was great, too. Matt's is pretty slick with the guitar effects... moreso than most hardcore guitar players and it added another dimension to the band that most other bands of that ilk are lacking.

It was great meeting you last night, Matt. And, I hope to see you play again sometime soon.

He's a great guy, even in limited exposure, and I strongly recommend all Obners go and meet the man (and see his band) whenever you get the chance.

Good for you for going, Todd. Not at all an easy thing to do (as I now know quite well)

I was happy to. I forget how much I like hardcore sometimes, until I hear it done really well.
Our friend cats is pretty creative with the effects pedals, as I said earlier. Made for a very cool racket. I enjoyed the shit out of their set.

Awe Shit, thanks for all the kind words Todd.
It was rad that you could make it. That place smelled like cat piss. It was a fabulous trip for us.
I'd also recommend Sultans Market for delicious cheap lamb.
The Brokedowns were out of control and hilarious, always a good show.

It's weird to me that you would call us "hardcore". Maybe that term is used differently by you grown ups now.
What is hardcore?

When I think of hardcore, I think of loud, fast, and a lot of shouting: Bad Brains, Naked Raygun, and stuff like that.
Although, to be fair, you guys did mix it up a bit... some more swing to your songs than others. At times, I thought a little bit of Minutemen, too. But overall, yeah, I would call your sound "hardcore." How would you say?

And yes, the scent of cat piss was in the air.

i qualify us as a punk garage rock band with a lot of trippy jammy parts.

i think of "hardcore" as a whole lot faster and shouty than us, the last band i was in was kind of a hardcore band.

Also funny.

Bassplayerwilleatyou kept making comments to me how it could end up scary to meet people from the internet.
When Todd was leaving bassplayerwilleatyou said something to Todd like "Thanks for not being a serial killer"
Todd goes "You think you know me?" and shot him the creepiest stare for a good twenty seconds.

Funnier because bassplayerwilleat you was probably a full foot taller than me. And he looked genuinely scared.

I would have enjoyed seeing his face if Todd would have told him he's a reincarnated serial killer that slayed his parents in a past life.

You know we stayed at Moose's because he was hoping to see ghosts.

Yep, dude has severe paranoia. He was genuinely shaken up by that. It took me by surprise too. Fuckin hysterical.

Listening to your EP now, I see why you don;t think of yourselves as "hardcore." There is more of that swing here that I mentioned before: a sound more-similar to Shellac, Jesus Lizard, or even Fugazi than to Bad Brains or early Hüsker Dü.
Maybe: Post-hardcore? (Saying "post-" anything is such a snotty, geeky thing to do. But then, I am posting at Obner, so I hope that you'll let it go.)
Oh, and I am digging it with a big shovel!

EDIT:
And apologize to bass player for me, if he really was shook up. Didn't mean to freak him out. I just like to fuck with people sometimes.
