Sam Adams - Noble Pils

Why, you ask? Because I've heard like 3 times now that it's good, it's different, no really, srsly it's good you should try it. It won't taste like all their other beers. Even the Yankee Brew News said the response had been so overwhelming that they're going to make it year-round instead of seasonal, replacing the White beer from their regular lineup. Fuckin' fool me twice, shame on me. Same 50% base coat flavor all their beers have, with slightly more hops. God dammit.

Victory - Golden Monkey
Image

Every word here is true. It's VERY smooth, like deceptively smooth. I tried to guess the alcy content by taste, and put it at 6.5%... it's 9.7. I had my wife taste it (she can't really have much gluten, but she still loves a tiny sip of beer), and asked her "does this taste like it has 10% alcohol to you?!" The response was "Yeeessssssss....." followed by her clutching the glass more tightly and drawing it closer to her. By the end of the bottle I was pleasantly fuzzy-headed, and pretty well in love with the stuff. Notice how clear it is, by the way - they filter out all that delicious yeast. Interesting choice, and probably a big part of why it's so stealthy. Goofy label, great beer.

Lake Louie - Louie's Reserve Scotch Ale
Image

The last of my regular Wisconsin beers from Thanksgiving. I still have a 22 of the magical Sprecher oak-aged scotch ale, but I'm saving that a bit longer. This was in danger of skunking, so I finally had to put her to pasture. Still smooth, still perfectly hopped and pleasantly boozy, but the flavor was indeed beginning to turn a little. Glad I moved when I did. Even so, these (or really the regular Scotch from them, which is almost identical) are my favorite scotch ales anywhere. It shall be missed.

I love your write-ups on these. And, I am going to try to get north of the (IL) border to pick up some of that Lake Louie; I love me some Scotch Ales.

Madison area has plenty of Lake Louie. Not sure if anything closer to the border does.

Cap'n I agree on the Noble Pils. I'm not a fan at all, I'll stick with the Prima Pils for my Pilsner needs.

ahahahaha!

i had that at great scott earlier in the week. it was alright but i switched to something else soon afterwards. the winter lager is the only one of theirs that i'll actually drink more than one of.

Image

having this now. the top broke off when i opened it so i'm not sure how old it is or if it's just the bottle. it's good but kind of bitter.

switching to matilda after this.

That Sam Adams would elect to replace the witbier (the only variety I would drink without an immediate urge to puke) with that shite should signal a death knell for them. But of course it won't.

I can't wait until this IPA phase ends.
Infinity hops does not equal ultimate awesomeness.
It's heartburn in a bottle, but a smile on your taken face.

If I wanted to make dandelion beer,
Dandelion by itself doesn't taste good but if
I put a lot of shitty beer in a bottle with it.
The dandelion makes it distinctive and marketable!
It's nowhere near to good. But you paid too much for it. So, is it?
Yes!
...And apparently other people enjoy the mild displeasure as well.
So it's good!

You earned it, dummy.

...because of this marketing trend of putting as much acrid hops into a bottle and somehow convincing people it's palatable.

but I did really bust my ass on that post.

Great Divide Herucles Double IPA
I personally like the Hops
I had it on tap with a slice of pizza

Image

I went to a local record label showcase with Radio Flyer races last night, and the bar had this on tap for the upcoming holiday. I love it, it is really drinkable

Image

From the oldest brewery in the World, Weihenstephaner Original, a traditional Munich Helles Lager
It was god damn delicious.

I said this 3 pages ago.

Unfortunately, I don't think Victory's beer is sold down here.

I can't support pouring beer down the toilet. If nothing else, hold onto it for guests who prefer run of the mill domestic beers so you can keep more of the other stuff for yourself.

It was just symbolic, that's actually just the bottle being rinsed out pre-recycling bin. I've had 3 more of them now and my mind has not changed, fwiw. Still tastes like bread, hops, and a little bit like soap.

So I had the Allagash Curieux saturday night.

Image

It's smooth, and it hides some of the hefty alcohol content with oak aged slight-of-hand. It's definately modeled on the belgians, though it doesn't specifically say so on the label. I tasted champaign yeast and beet sugars, I'm pretty sure. I enjoyed it when it was cold at first, and even more-so when it had warmed up a bit an hour later, but it wasn't worth $17 for that bottle. Wouldn't get it again. At $10 a bottle I probably would, but not at $17. Also the next day I had a splitting headache and this was all I had to drink all night.

Abita has fully invaded Nebraska now, so I tried:
Jockamo IPA

I've also been drinking beers from the Tall Grass Brewery in Manhattan, KS:
Kold Lager
Tall Grass Ale

Nebraska Brewing Co:
Hop Gop (a mix of Belgian Tripel and West Coast IPA)
Black Betty Imperial Russian Stout

Tonight:
Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Imperial Russian Stout
Schell Brewery 150th Anniversary Hopfenmalz

This is the only Abita beer that I really like a lot. Andygator is pretty decent as well.

Terrapin Rye Pale Ale - couldn't remember if I'd ever had this before or not. It seems like I must have at some point. Well, it's nothing remarkable - or memorable, I guess - but it's pretty good. Better than Sweetwater 420 for a somewhat similar kind of thing.

Image

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis - now this is some good stuff. The first Sierra Nevada I've ever been really impressed by, but maybe that's just because I was really in the mood for a hefe this past weekend. But I liked it so much that I'm going to have to get some Weihenstephaner Heffe Weissbier and do a back to back comparison. I may have found a new favorite hefeweizen.
