Go? The man's an icon! But I have nada by him. :nono:

What do you recommend? I think I'd rather hear newer stuff than Me & Umphrey's McGee for teh hundreth time. I've read good reviews on his latest- are they still sticking?

Any linkys?

Thanks!

Finchy: Repeat after me, "Fuck you, Radcliffe."

Haven't heard the latest one.

2) Me & Bobby McGee

Just go with that double-disc Essential Kristofferson if you want an introduction.

I'm looking at AllMusic, and these are all pretty old. Some of the newer live stuff gets good reviews... Hmmmmmmmmm.

Radcliffe, I take it you wouldn't go see him? Why not?

Not only my favorite but if we were to re-do listmania, this would probably be top 20 for me. I like all the albums tentoze recommends as well. Haven't heard the new one, the one before that wasn't bad but generally his older stuff is a lot better.

I would absolutely go see him especially if on someone else's nickel.

Clock's ticking on him, and he's got to be suffering a bunch of ill effects from decades of self-abuse of heroic proportions. I'd catch him live anytime I could.

The new one isn't bad at all. Probably not on par w/ his best, but decent.

And I concur with Billyg's pick.

Ok, thanks. Any idea if he plays solo live, or if he tours with a band?

I've seen him performing in concert on a few teevee shows the last couple years, always with a band, and a very good one at that.

Id definitely seek out the s/t album as well. But to my ears, the man's more a songwriter than singer -

I saw him in Napa a couple of years ago, and I hate to say it, but I was underwhelmed. The best part was the between song banter. I certainly went in with expectations and that may have been the problem. Dunno. I do know, I love his first record and have for many years. How long has Kris been writing songs ? 45 years. What struck me most was how he could barely play the guitar. Weird.

A God. He wrote more great songs than he has sung, but like Dylan, his deal is underrated.

Me and Bobby McGee is a classic, but songs like To Beat the Devil, Help Me Make it Through the Night, Blame it On the Stones, and Sunday Morning Coming Down pretty much put him up there with Bob, Bruce, Jagger/Richards, Lennon/McCartney and John R. Cash and Willie Nelson as the best songwriters EVER.

Lol. After getting a copy of one of his Greatest Hits discs, taking a picture of the cover and copying the discs, I sent them to my sister in anticipation of the concert.

This morning, I get an email from my sister: I am sorry to say that it is Christopher Cross, not Kris Kristofferson, who is coming to Visalia. We got your CD's, and I noticed that the picture on them did not look like the one in the paper. So sorry.

D'oh!

Have at it, Radcliffe.

It'd be priceless if Radcliffe was like "Oh Christopher Cross?! Now I'd see him."

i realize this thread is more about kristofferson as a musician, but av club just did a random roles for him. i'm most amazed he's still alive. his answers to some of these questions are ridiculous.

Quote:
Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) — “David”

KK: Yeah, that was a good one. I’m blanking again on the name, who was the director, the famous…
AVC: Martin Scorsese?
KK: Oh yeah, Martin. He was great. I was really honored to be doing a film with him.

Quote:
KK: I’m trying to think of a film that I did, I did a couple of films and I can’t think of names worth a damn, but I was thinking of the one where I played the killer sheriff…silver…uh…
AVC: Silver City?
KK: No. Uh… oh boy. They say the first thing to go is your legs, then it’s your reflexes, then it’s your friends. [Laughs.] My memory is really bad now. This guy’s a very good independent director, the guy that did this film. And you know his name, and I know his name just like my family. But I remember when he asked me to do the role, a killer, a sheriff who was really a cold-blooded guy.
AVC: Lone Star.
KK: Lone Star! Tell me the director’s name.
AVC: That was John Sayles.
KK: Yeah. It was a great experience.

Quote:
Planet Of The Apes (2001)—“Karubi”

AVC: Was your character one of the apes?
KK: Yeah, I was… No, I wasn’t an ape. I was a caveman type of guy. I think. [Laughs.]
