Chuck Prophet is playing at a small restaurant that doubles as music venue in a small historic town about an hour from here. Apparently, he loves the area (it is really is beautiful) and made a deal to play for lodging on his way to South by Southwest. This venue has maximum of 100 people and is one of two restaurants in the town. There's no stage, no dressing rooms, etc. They're will be zero separation from audience to performer. He'll basically be playing in the corner of a closed in porch. Tickets are 20 bucks.

He's playing Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa on 3/12. I'm going to TRY to make it down there for the show. Another great small venue.

Perfect venue to see him. If he brings the whole band you're in for a great night.

Damn. I'm leaving that night to go to DC. That stretch from Thursday to Sunday has some great bands in town:

Chuck Prophet
Cymbals Eat Guitars
The Morning Benders
Drive By Truckers - 2 night stand (FML!)
Rodrigo y Gabriela
Portugal, The Man
Roman Candle

I'm gonna skip DBT this time out and make it a point to see CP, Loog. The show is Thursday, March 11.

Derris, I'm disappointed--I was counting on you for this one.

I'll be in town. Is The Truckers Friday? I'll pay (and not drink) if you wanna go?

FemDerris' dad is a bankruptcy attorney and he's getting inducted into the American College of Bankruptcy.

Apparently it's a pretty big deal and the ceremony is in the Supreme Court.

Probably not much chance for any meet ups unfortunately. Gonna be a weekend for inductees and their families, etc.

Should be cool because these folks will be doing it up at a high level but there is also the fact that there will be a lot of bankruptcy and investment banking humor.

Staying at the Mayflower which is supposed to be pretty nice.

Apparently the Cambodian bartender Sam makes the best martini in the free world. I suggest you try one.

The show was last night and it was great. Probably a little less than 100 showed up. I sat in the very back, which was about 30 feet from the stage.

I was surprised at how good of a guitarist Chuck was. His storytelling between songs was a lot of fun. Hot Talk was much better live than on record. I thought the highlights of the show was a cover of Bangkok and You Did (Bomp Shooby Dooby Bomp).

Got to hang around after the show with the band, and they were all super nice.

It's interesting that y'all were talking about the Atlanta show because after the show, Prophet's band were talking about how they have zero following in Atlanta and the show there is always less than 30 people.

From the Saturday night show in Tampa, I agree with this. He absolutely tore up You Did. And, dude acts like he genuinely LOVES performing. Other than the one number that the chick keyboard player did from her new album, there were no low points to the set. *EDIT*- damn, that's his wife. She boring.

Apparently she was sick and dashed away right after the show. They're were staying on site in some cabins that are adjacent to the bar. So she didn't sing any songs for us, thankfully.

The band talked about how much fun they had at the Tampa show and how it was there favorite gig thus far, and how it was the best crowd.

I didn't end up making it, and I think Bloor may have perished in the aftermath?
