Interesting fact I heard the other day: This is the first time since 1966 that at least one of these teams hasn't been in the NCAA tourney: UCLA, UConn., Arizona, North Carolina and Indiana.

So I stepped into the elevator at work.
There was nobody on there.
As the door closed, I was overwhelmed: somebody's fart was still lingering in there; and it was still pretty potent.

Thankfully it was a short ride, and equally thankfully, there was nobody waiting for the lift at the floor where I got off, lest they think it was me.

In this case, the one who smelt it certainly had not dealt it.

Weird. Yeah, it is kinda weird not seeing a few of those in there, especially UNC. What happened to all their sports programs? Maybe I just don't follow them enough, but back in the day I really liked their lacrosse program, and for awhile there it caught the suck. Its rebuilding now but...and wasn't their baseball program decent?

I'm not usually a big fan of Spin magazine (the only reason I have a subscription is because my brother got me a subscription for Christmas), but they have some interesting interviews in the new edition. Its artists talking with their idols, so they have Billie Joe Armstrong talking with Paul Westerberg, Kevin Drew talking with J. Mascis, Britt Daniel and Ray Davies, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kim Gordon, Sharon Jones and Mavis Staples, Gerard Way (ugh) and Iggy Pop, Matt Berninger and Black Francis, and Ted Leo and Paul Weller. Some of it is bull, but some of it is good reading as well.

saw ike reilly last night.
he packed the house surprisingly
it was kind of awkward initially to experience a hoard of 30+ yr. olds in what traditionally is a punk rock club but
all in all it was a pretty rockin' show.

With apologies to it's fans, I could not care less about a sport than I do about college baseball. The Little League World Series is more compelling.

Has UNC football ever been good? I know they've had a couple of good seasons here and there but I wouldn't even consider them a marginal power in their own marginal conference. You would think that both UNC and UVA could at least buy a good team once in a while.

My enjoyment of college baseball is limited to the couple of times we got pints and packs of sunflower seeds and wallowed away a lazy spring day at the UGA field -- pretty much because it was down the street from my house, and it was too nice to stay inside.

And UNC football is more defined by 2 professional players - LT and Julius Peppers than it will ever be by wins.

Yeah, UNC football has never been that good. I've also always been surprised by that fact as well that they couldn't attract a coach or some decent players on name value alone. I just did a little digging and I guess the current coaching staff is doing much better and is bringing in much better players. Last ACC championship was '80.

Decent was apparently an understatement:

They made a third straight trip to Omaha in 2008, and a fourth for the 2009 CWS
