Has this shit been talked about here? If so, did the person who tasted it live through the night? What the screaming FUCK are these people thinking?

i thought it has. can't remember who it was.

they had it on tap when i was at the harpoon brewery but i didn't try it. my friend said it was ok and the oyster taste wasn't really overpowering.

Yeah somebody posted that earlier, but it wasn't a review I don't think. Just a WTF. I've walked past it now probably 20 times at the store. Still sounds kinda ... wrong.

Yes, I thought it was more than a hint. I was like 6 or 7 beers in before I drank it, so my senses were dulled, yet I still tasted it. One of the worst beers I've had in a long time.

You need to try a NOLA Brown Ale, Kyle. Not sure when it will make it up to your neck of the woods though.

Let us know as soon as you know when. We'll be visiting friends in Maine July 3-9, then visiting those guys in Boston 9-11.

On second thought, just use those dates as an outline to NOT schedule.

Oh my god, absolutely! I've already started building up a stash, fwiw. I have:

1x 12oz Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout
1x 22oz Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout
1x 22oz Long Trail Winter White
1x Sprecher Scotch-Style Oak-Aged Ale

Smuttynose - Barleywine-Style Ale
Image

... = Image
I don't know what the content of this was, but the thumping in my skull for the first half of the next day at work suggested "about 10%, maybe 11." I had just this to drink that night, and had plenty of food, and was still quietly ripped. The flavor is thick thick THICK, in a good way. There's a lot of latent sweetness, a good strong hop bite to balance it out, and just shitloads of body. If you've had a barleywine before you'll know what to expect. This is a very good example of it, and is not to be trifled with. Proceed with caution. Smuttynose continues to deliver.

Green's - Tripel Blonde (Gluten Free)
Image
I found a series of 3 from these guys for the wife at the good place around the pond - all made in belgium with no gluten. She tried this'n last night and I had a sip or two. The Bad: It doesn't taste like a blonde tripel. The Good: It tastes like something similar, with a wierd twist that isn't unpleasant. If I wanted the real deal I wouldn't go for it, but if having any gluten meant Sherman would go Scorched Earth through my colon, I'd go for these before just about anything else I've found that's gluten-free. Can't wait to sip the other two.

Left Hand Brewery - Mixed 12 Pack
(Not my pics)
Image
Image
Image

-and there was one more kind, a pale ale or something, but this was such a boring fucking 12 pack that I couldn't even remember what it was called to google it. None of these had a specific problem, per se, but my god were they forgettable. In those interminably long and repetitive Robert Jordan sci-fi books there was a kind of bad guy creature whose whole magical talent was to look so incredibly non-descript that it was almost impossible to SEE him, much less remember him. "Grey Men" I think they were called. When those guys get done killing people and slipping away unnoticed, they head to the local Colorado Applebee's and order these. The wheat beer was completely rote - bananas and a hint of spice - the ales were just ..."beer"... and the milk stout was ok, the best of the 4, but again, just basically the same as the pale ale but the malt was roasted more. WHHEEEEEE!! Zzzzzzz.

Never again.

I had this in 12oz can form last night. It was a little odd buying a six pack of Belgian beer for $11 in aluminum can form, but it was quite tasty. I don't think I'd go out and buy it again for that price, but it was nice to drink a light, refreshing witbier on an unseasonably warm day.

I bought this before heading out to my Dad's for Easter yesterday, since he has a tendency to drink my beer instead of his usual Busch Light for the day. It was pretty good. I generally put most Spoetzl Beers in the same classification as the Schell Beers, they aren't bad, but never quite up to snuff compared to most other American microbreweries.
I shouldn't have really worried about him taking one of these, he had one and then switched to O'Douls, sometime after Christmas he stopped drinking real beer on a regular basis.

Nola Hurricane Saison Draft Pack

I freaking loved this. Extremely light beer with a spicy finish. Not as earthy as a Belgium saison but extremely enjoyable. I could drink 20 easily, and couldn't imagine a better beer to pair w/ crawfish. Came in a "draft pack" which I've never seen before. Basically, it's a gallon ( a case) of beer in box with a spout like box wine comes.

Bear Republic - Racer 5 IPA
Green's - Discovery Amber Ale (Gluten Free)
Image

Busty tipped me to Racer 5, which I've had a few times before. This time I got a sixpack instead of a bomber, and it was nice to get a chance to revisit it several times over the week. What I realized this time was that this is 75% Bell's Two Hearted... very VERY similar, but not quite as far down the same road. Alcohol is 7% I think, so it's packin' appropriately. Great body, decent early (bitter) hops, and shitloads of late/wet hopping means there's a lot going on. Since I can't get Bell's here, this eases the blow.

Another Green's for the wife, #2 of 3. I didn't photo the third, which she had last night, but it was a dark ale that she liked the best. This one was similar to the first - a very well-made slightly wonky gluten free beer. Regular good beer drinkers will notice something not quite right, but it beats the shit out of like Redbridge and whatever other gluten-free swill you can always find in stock from Anheuser Busch or SAB/Miller.

Oskar Blues - Mama's Little Yella Pils
Image

We went to a bbq at a friend's place Saturday evening, and I traded someone a Racer 5 for one of these, as I'd seen it but not had it yet. Opening the can and taking a deep whiff, I immediately had an out of body experience. I was wearing green cotton overalls and a matching jacket, stepping out of a mid-90's green vw golf diesel in the parking lot of the Bitburger Brewery at 6am. The malt, the hops... this is incredibly close to Bitburger by smell, though somewhat less so in taste. This is sweeter than Bitburger (which is a very dry beer, fwiw), but it's 80% the same beer. I don't know what Oskar Blues is using (I fucking hate people who don't put any info on their product goddammit) but it HAS to be mostly the same shit - malt type, roast color, hop variety and amounts were all right there. WIERD. Anywho, I didn't really dig it and won't be buying more. Oskar Blues, your stock is falling.

Brooklyn Brewery - Local 2
Image

This is an ale with citrus peel and honey, and a good content (9%). They didn't overdo anything... it's incredibly well balanced. I nursed this over the course of 5 hours, working on the wife's bike outside at first, then grilling, then eating dinner. Not only were there no mistakes, but the result was really interesting, different, memorable, worth the price... this is how it's supposed to be done. A solid "A" beer, for sure. Will be picking up other Brooklyn big beers for sure.

Kyle - I did not enjoy that Yella Pils. Dales Pale is pretty much where they start and stop for me.

Avery Brewing Co. - The Reverend (Belgian-style Quadrupel Ale)

Image

This was well made, but didn't really distinguish itself from the flood of other knock-off belgians. They use belgian malts, candy sugars, and yeast, so they're making the effort. It had a LOT of latent sweeteness though, almost to the point of being chewy, and isn't really complex enough to make you take notice. It packs a punch, but it's not one I'll go after again. I still dig the brewery but they aren't flawless.

And Dave I got one of those Sierra 30th anniversary big boys, and was going to have it last night but it was like 90 degrees here yesterday. I got pretty seriously dehydrated on the ride home in traffic, to where I had stomach cramps and a little nausea when I got home. Didn't wanna delve into a 9% tallboy after that, so I chugged some water (and 2 harpoon summers).

The first time I've seen this Boulevard product and since they were on sale for $5.99, I decided to try it. It's pretty good for a Maibock, but nothing spectacular. I will say it is a bit more substantial and flavorsome than most Boulevard Beers.
