holy crap this is gonna be good. i suppose it's too much to expect it will be up to par with band of brothers, but if it's even half as good i'll be happy.

Fuck HBO for that straight cocktease.

This was filming over a year ago and was supposed to come out this year.

I saw the trailer right before the 1st ep of True Blood last week and thought they were going to give a summer date and they did.........2010.

Should be awesome though.

Is this the Thin Red Line to BoB's Saving Private Ryan?

Maybe they needed a lot of post production?

of course they did. It's not like Spielberg can just insert Nazis/allegory in this thing overnight, you know.

I also wonder what the hook is. Easkwoog already covered My Fathers Were Fags, or whatever it was....

This is about the Marines - but I don't know what the source material will be. Some of the best/most poignant shit from BoB was the fact that they trained, shipped out, fought and died as a unit.

The great interactions of a more segmented and parochial America, the changing nation, etc...

yeah, while I think it'll be interesting to have scenes of back home (as shown in the trailer), I don't know if that's going to help it as a series. BoB was interesting enough when they showed how some of the people were from nearby areas (the two guys from Philly, Malarkey and the Nazi from Eugene, etc...), but I don't know if watching these guys get married (flashbacks?) or their families grieve will necessarily expand the scope of the series. I don't know, it could improve things, but I'm not sure I like the idea of being pulled out of the life these guys are living and looking at the other side of things.

It would be awesome if they inserted a Klinger-type character into this series for comedic effect...

anyone else watching?

i wasn't sure about this after the first two episodes...seemed to be veering close to cliche war stories. but it picked up for me when they arrived in melbourne. i like the development of leckie now...and it didn't hurt that i was smitten by stella in that 3rd episode as well. don't think we'll be seeing more of her though.

s'ok. Not nearly as compelling a narrative -- which I called a year ago.

So, that 10 solid minutes of them crossing the airfield last night was about as intense as anything either series has done yet.

i will be stunned if the guy who plays snafu isn't up for an emmy. (not that sledge hasn't been impressive, but snafu owns every scene he's in, especially the last few episodes where he's more than comic relief.)

i'm assuming they'll close this out with something resembling the best years of our lives.

Last 2 episodes have been the best so far, imo. I like the evolution of Sledge, and the Basilone story arc.

Man, really? He's grown on me some as Sledge started to descend into the madness of the whole thing but for about 3 episodes starting when he is first introduced he ruined every scene he was in for me.

I guess I'm supposed to accept that he's already battle-hardened and war fatigued when he's first on screen but I just found him annoying with his faux-south louisiana accent.

Although, the scene where he's tossing rocks into the head of a dead Jap was pretty disturbing.
