...that is SO much better than the rest of their output, that you wonder why they weren't a better band, overall.

For me...

Soul Assylum - "Cartoon"

It's a perfect song. And while the band certainly was not bad, per se, they did have enough cringe-worthy moments to make you think twice about them sometimes.

Kids, despite what you may read on message boards, paint huffing is not good for you.

spent - excuse me while i drink myself to death

this song is amazing and should be heard by all.
they had an adorable girl guitar player who played lead and a few good hooks, but nothing came close to this song and their albums are snore fests.

This is as close to fightin' words as I've pondered on this board today....

Man, I think that whole album is pretty damn good. Certainly not perfect, and their later releases definitely had cringe-worthy moments, but I don't put "Cartoon" head and shoulders above the rest of their output.

For me, the Left Banke comes to mind. "Walk Away Renee" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and although there's stuff they released that I like, none of it is close to WAR.

Yeah, the Walkmen are a good singles band. (Little House of Savages, hello!)

But, some deep cuts:
Thinking of a Dream
Hang on Siobhan
138th St
Everyone Who Pretended..(prob. still my favorite Walkmen song)
Wake Up
Revenge...
Rue the Day

And both of the opening tracks are some of my favorite opening songs to any records from this decade.

I actually own both Crocodiles and Ocean Rain, and I wouldn't be worried if I didn't hear them again bar Killing Moon.

I actually like the Foos and own the first three albums, and like them. 'Everlong' is by far their best song though. And I haven't heard that much Built To Spill admittedly, but I didn't really dig what I have heard apart from 'Strange'.

I feel like i've been personally attacked and assualted with this comment.

I've never met someone who likes "Metal Mickey" and doesn't love "Killing of a Flashboy" at the very minimum. Not to mention their entire first three albums and B-sides collection.

That Built to Spill comment is pretty offbase for me as well. I wouldn't put "Strange" in my top 20 Built to Spill songs.

Different strokes.

I'll have to revisit. Bought the album for that song and nothing else really grabbed me. Haven't listened to it in years.

Maybe I should cut back on my Hatorade intake, what with this thread and the 'Critcally Praised Bands You Don't Like' thread.
