:-?

i'm terrible at coming up with RIYL.

Cats, I don't know if its a good or bad RIYL as I've never heard either band. I was just giving Kingfish shit for liking a band that has Surfer Blood as a RIYL given how much he dislikes Surfer Blood.

Errr?

I guess he's referring to this from 2007...

I've never heard it though. Anybody?

it's awesome, possibly her best IMO.

but point of clarification, this is the ppdd jim white (drummer from the dirty three), not the reg-rock jim white.

Important clarification for sure.

Never thought of the reg-rock Jim White as reg-rock, but ok.

You can't call Jim White (Dirty Three) PPDD!! What the fuck? He's one of the best drummers out there, seriously.

Didn't someone post the Plimsouls live album in here? Regardless, heard this on NPR last night.

oh i know dudes - on both counts...it was mostly said tongue-in-cheek (i find both those descriptors completely retarded), but also kinda clearly illustrated the point of two totally different jim whites....

Awesome. I didn't even know about this. That clip of "Run Run Run/Who Do You Love" is outstanding.

I've only heard "One Night In America" as far as live albums for them. This looks like a definite purchase. Love that band.

Really loving this libarians disc. RIYL: Animal Collective, Radiohead

Quote:
Librarians follow up their debut full-length, Alright Easy Candy Stranger, by delving into the catalogs of baroque pop and new wave without abandoning the viscous dance-punk that first captivated audiences in their home state of West Virginia. File "Candy Season" under B for boat drinks, bouncy psychedelia and beaches. "Cranberry Palace" belongs amongst the 60's heartbreakers, between the charm of The Turtles and the pitch perfect humility of The Zombies. On "Marilla Park" the band channels the smooth delivery of Clinic with a hint of Echo and the Bunnymen. Appalachia may not seem to be the first place you'd look for weird, kaleidoscopic party jams, but with Present Passed Librarians continue to defy easy classification.

I only listened to the first four songs of the new Blitzen Trapper but I was not really feeling it all. They've earned future listens from based on that last album so we'll see.

The Mynabirds on the other hand is fucking fantastic. The singer has definitely heard of Cat Power and Dusty Springfield (not that that's a bad thing) and the band swings pretty tight. Hoping for many happy returns.

That good, eh? I had previewed a couple of tracks and it didn't really grab me. Maybe I should give it a proper listen.

My most listened to album this week, and really the first thing this year that has totally grabbed me.

I liked her voice but the music was kind of boring at times.
