My girls have been listening to Blondie remixes this week, for some odd reason. They also discovered the greatness of Rock Lobster on the the local retro show while driving home the other night.

Son: "Full Of Love" -Dr Caculus (from She's Having A Baby soundtrack - I put it on a cassette mix with a bunch of other boppin' tunes)

Daughter: "Jesus Of Suburbia" - Green Day

They also like lotsa pop dreck, but I'm workin' on 'em . My son will probably always be in love with Shania Twain, though. Hopefully that's because she's hot and not because he's Bobby Hill.

No such luck for me.

Right now the only song Charlie listens to or sings is the theme to the cartoon Teen Titans.

He's even made up his own lyrics to the song.

Cary (5) and Ethan (3) both happen to love
"Ashes on the Water" by Hop On Pop! And, no, I did NOT force it on them!

Other favorites:
"Pinhead" by The Ramones "Gabba Gabba HEY!"
"Truck" by Shrimp Boat (I don't know why, but they love the free jazz skronk)
"Hereoes & Villans" by Brian Wilson (When they first heard it, Cary said "I've never heard music like this before, Dad. I like it!")
"The Magic Number" by De La Soul

And Ethan, in particular, loves Ralph's World. Especially a song called "I Wanna Be a Puppy Dog". As far as kid's music goes, it's pretty good.

I danced with my son to some ABBA tunes the other night. My son, who is 5, has been on a kick that my music is "ugly," while his mom's (my ex-wife's) music, which is primarily Alan Jackson and the like, is great. I wonder where he came up with that....

Anyway, he really hasn't been very receptive lately to stuff I've listened to with him for that reason, but I haven't tried to shove it down his throat either. So it was nice to see his reaction (dancing and asking me to dance with him) to ABBA.

The other day, my 4 year old nephew told me the music I was listening to was too loud. It was Kings of Convenience.

I have been teaching this to my stepson, as well as Blitzkreig Bop "Hey Ho, Let's Go"--which he's beginning to chant everytime he jumps into the car.

Lilly (6) loves The Knife "Heartbeats", U2 "Elevation" (warming to "Vertigo"), and The Soundtrack of Our Lives (TSOOL) "Bigtime".

Cody (12) has just discovered the Talking Heads, but has been forced to truly enjoy TSOOL's "Wheels of Boredom" and "Borderline" by his Swede-obsessed parents.

"it's my turn on the computer"

"can we buy some candy?"
