that dog
magnapop
throwing muses
cub
the muffs

in high school i used to be big in Belly - Star as well, but don't think I've listened to that since then

I've always felt Kenickie were an under-rated band, although it has to be said 'Punka' really gets on my tits.

there's this female fronted band out of Long Island, NY that are pretty damn cool!

They are called ONE TRUE THING!

i hear good things. [snicker]

i think you can hear four songs at www.myspace.com/playtheassassinrecords

and, this may just be a rumor, but i think you get a free poster and buttons if you purchase the CD (for $13ppd) at www.playtheassassin.com

of course, this is all heresay, and you should check the above links yourself to make sure my claims were valid.

Cub was my shit. anything that rose from tiger trap put out (i.e. go sailor, gaze, etc). echobelly. heavenly. bunnygrunt. papas fritas was about the last one that really hit me, although i still give stuff like architecture in helsinki and life without buildings a shot when i hear about'em.

That record, after it passes the 5 year mark, will slip right into my top 10 records of all time.....

one year or so is not long enough for it to claim the distinction, but I see it happening...

I have championed that record for a long time...

new one is on the way!

my current favorite female fronted album though, and does reside in my top 10 all time favortie cd's is: Veruca Salt "Eight Arms to Hold You".. Now thats a RAWK record!

of current bands, i think new pornographers are my fav, if/when they count since neko only leads on some songs. of course, no others immediately come to mind.

Mirah. Thought that's more of just one girl, I think.

I just saw The Reunion live, opening for Ted Leo. They were pretty generic sounding live, but I bet they're pretty damn catch on record.

I'm going into Damone Album #2 with low expectations..."From The Attic" was pretty much completely written by Dave Pino ( that's who I got the Noelle album & the MIT boot from, BTW ) , & he's been outta the band for a long time now.

I'll totally give the album a fair shot, & I truly hope it's awesome...I'm just not really expecting it to be.

They are great. They came out of a band called Hafacat who used to play shows with some friends of my sister. When we realized who they were, we were like 'we know them!' Rachel and Ben are just about the nicest humans ever to live.

I'd like to also second

Throwing Muses
Mirah
Heavenly/Marine Research
Cub
Belly

adding

Sarge
The Sick Bees
The Owls
Natalie Merchant

and of course

Sleater-Kinney!!

I still own all my Primitives and Fetchin Bones on cd. i don't know how the Primitives would hold up though - I have been motivated to give 'em a listen in years. I liked the Spinanes back in the day but sold 'em all off years ago.

Transvision Vamp were always crap. Lead singer just released a solo album this year. I can't imagine its any good.

Surprised the Blake Babies & Sundays didn't get a mention yet. Those are the ones I used to listen to most in the early 90's/late 80's.

Yep. I can't defend 'em on any level. But still, I can't help myself from liking the song "Revolution Baby". I need to be punished. Maybe Wendy James should punish me... and then punish me again, only harder this time.
