can i use the Philadelphai A's, aparently they ruled.

Not in the past 50 years, they didn't. They left in what 1964? Braves came to ATL in 66...

so in 40 years, yeah we've each won one title

for all the great braves teams, and all their division titles . . . they've won the same number of WS in the last 50 years as the Phillies.

the same number of titles as the worst franchise in all of sports.
congratulations.

I just hope you feel better now Jewlsey.

BTW, I don't think I would call the Phillies anywhere near the worst franchise in sports. Choakers? Sure. Underachievers? Absolutely. But in a town that also houses the Flyers and Eagles (who traffic in the same things), they are far from the worst franchise in sports or even baseball.

actually, i think they are the worst franchise in the history of baseball. They have the most losses in the history of American sports and 1 WS in 200 some years.

but you can use my argument right back at me with the falcons vs the eagles. The iggs are dominant but have the same number of superbowl appearances and titles as the falcons.

word; Take some cheer in this: Philly teams may not win the big one, but they are usually pretty good. Atlanta is pretty well a sports cesspool (the Braves used to suck real bad, The Falcons have never had back to back winning seasons, The Hawks......., The Flames left town, The Thrashers have potential, but they dont play hockey anymore, etc etc)

The Atlanta Chiefs (pro-soccer) did win a World Title in 1968...... :wanker:

Nice guy. "Player's Coach" which I guess you need after Bowa. They will walk all over him and the team will fold.

That's the impression he may give, but I don't see it. He'll be forced to kick some butt at least once during the season, and I have a feeling it'll be Placido Polanco who gets the ass-whoopin'

I believe he is a players type manager; And not a freak out artist like that crazy person y'all have had.

The baseball guy on the radio here in Atlanta spoke with several Phillies players at sprng training and all seem to like Manual........

Maybe a White Sox fan can speak more to him.....

i really ended up disliking the players last year. they were a bunch of quitters and cry babies. The flat out quit on Bowa.

i don't mind losing as much as i mind losers.

so hopefully a "players coach" will help get the cry babies feeling confident.

I thought the Phillies held on to Bowa way too long. Local legend.

Speaking of which, despite his legendary status in Philly, why do the Flyers still let Bobby Clark be GM?

The answer can be found in yesterday's "word of the day" Chris. Clarke was legendary for his action on that front as well, and uses it to keep management, ownership and players in line.

It is another season riding on a wave young promising talent that will be dashed against the pointy rocks of crappy pitching.

No Larkin either :(

Charlie Manuel, Jerry Manuel, what's the difference?

Erm... Charlie was in Cleveland?

I think Boston, too, for a season -- the infamous PJ flame-out got him shit-canned, though.

My fairly fearless predictions for 2005:

American League

East
New York
Boston
Baltimore
Toronto
Tampa Bay

Central
Minnesota
Cleveland
Detroit
Chicago
Kansas City

West
Anaheim
Texas
Oakland
Seattle

National League

East
Atlanta
Florida
Philadelphia
New York
Washington DC

Central
St. Louis
Chicago
Houston
Pittsburgh
Milwaukee
Cincinnati

West
Los Angeles
San Diego
San Francisco
Colorado
Arizona

Notes: All 4 teams in the AL West will be within 10 games of each other
The NL East will be the most interesting race this year
San Diego is starting to approach the level they were playing at in the mid to late 90s
Milwaukee is a year or two away from competing seriously
Detroit will continue to make leaps and bounds towards mediocrity

Oops, how could I overlook a team like Tampa Bay, with their wonderful star players such as Aubrey Huff, Carl Crawford, Toby Hall, and uh....uh....Paul Sorrento?

My Texas Rangers have made the leap from shitty to somewhere between mediocre and average. I predict a .500 season. No better, no worse.

I agree. For once, I think Oakland might actually finish last in this division. If Seattle ends up in last place, the West will be the stongest division in the AL this year.

Sports Illustrated picked the World Series:

Yankees over the Braves

Top 3 teams according to SI:

1) Yankees
2)Red Sox
3) Braves

Now, let's break this down:

Yankees: Over 200 Million payroll
Red Sox - Just under 200 Million payroll
Braves - 80 Million payroll

I think that says it all about why we rule. I don't want to hear SHIT about not winning it all. Hell we shouldn't win it all with our payroll but we sure as shit compete for it everyyear.
