Couldn't say, but I was travelling and it never crossed my mind to ask how much the drinks were when ordering. $24-ish is what I was expecting.

well, i recently decided i wanted this to be the summer of Old Fashioned's for me (thanks Mad Men season 3). so i went out and bought supplies last week. i am using this rye:

i'm open for suggestions on how to make an OF as i see 9 million different "authentic recipes" scattered on the internets - each claiming to be the real deal. so far i've only tried muddling a sugar cube with a few dashes of angostura, along with an orange slice and a cherry. the results were a bit to sweet for my liking.

I'm about to run out of my Wild Turkey rye whiskey, so I might be getting that one above next.

For OF, I muddle a 1/2 tsp of sugar with an splash of water and a few dashes of angostura bitters, fill glass half full with ice cubes, add 2 oz rye whiskey and stir. Haven't done the orange or cherry since I don't ever have them available. I also only thought you do an orange peel, not a slice? I might holler at those cherries from Amazon to complete the drink though, so thanks.

i am liking that rye a lot, but it's also my first foray into ryes. i went looking for sazerac, but they were out and one of the employees pointed me towards this.

i think the recipe you reference above is as close to the original as i've seen. lots of purists call bs on adding the fruits. i did recently try those new cherries in an OF and it made a hell of a difference. definitely pick those up tommy, they are worth it.

the only other thing i read is that a lemon (either twist or wedge) works better with the rye and the orange works better with bourbon. i might try that next time. at least it's a lot of fun trying to find the right balance.

For my old fashions, I've always used simple syrup. That's just the way I was taught.

Yea, I want to try simple syrup in them. Didn't have that around either.

I got some Peychaud's Bitter and Orange Bitters (for other drinks) from KegWorks the other week but need to order simple syrup and the cherries as well.

You can make simple syrup. 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar. Put it into a pan over heat and stir until the sugar is absorbed. Let cool. I use Peychaud and Fee Brothers orange bitters as well.

i need to try the simple syrup. maybe it will be less sweet than a whole sugar cube.

i've just been using the angostura aromatic bitters. i'll try one of the ones you guys mentioned next.

i almost ordered the Regan's from kegworks with my last order:

2 oz shots of sample scotches go for $1.25 at the liquor stores in Ontario. Tried Bruichladdich yesterday.

Seriously, Todd if you like Irish Whiskey, you should try some Redbreast. I'm lobbying hard here, but it's clearly the best Irish Whiskey at its price point.

There's a ton of great affordable scotches, american, canadian, and japanese (really good ones) at decent price points. All deserving of recommendations. But at the 40 dollar range, you won't find a better IRISH whiskey.

Picked some up this afternoon, along with a rum-casked Balvenie. Sipping the Redbreast now, and can already say it smokes Jameson or Bushmills.

Loogs, they cooked this one up down in your neck of the woods:

Irish Pancake

One shot: 50/50 Jameson and Butterscotch Schnapps
One shot chaser: Orange Juice

Of other Jameson interest:

Last week I was in a bar that served shots o' Jame-O with a pickle juice chaser. Much less disgusting than you'd think.
