How can you not like Massive Attack? Ok, 100th Window is a weak record, but Blue Lines?? Mezzanine?? Even Protection are very cool records.

Vanishing Point from Primal Scream is one of my favorite records of 97. Just about every track is great. It's a bit dated now, but still a killer record. Evil Heat was disappointing but still has some nice tracks.

Primal Scream and MA are two of my favourite bands. OK MA, yeah, i guess they do have a certain sound that you may not dig (although Mezzanine sounds a lot different to Blue Lines to me).

I wonder about the Primal Scream statement though, none of their albums sound the same and disliking one means nothing, not even PS fans like them all. There's the early jangle-pop records, the ecstasy fueled Dance-Britpop mix of Screamadelica, the Stonesy retro rock of Give Out..., the dub/trip hop influenced rock of Vanishing Point (and it's entire album Dub remix), or the techno-punk of XTRMNTR and Evil Heat.

I love PS Vanishing Point is my favourite too, but I hate Give Out.. for example.

I like Massive Attack more than Primal Scream. I like Screamedelica better than XTRMNTR, but those are the only ones i know.

I mainly just hate Screamadelica. I may check out more Primal Scream some day.

I don't think I've ever liked anything I've ever heard by Massive Attack. I may just have heard singles, but I don't like any of it from any period. None of what I've heard from Blue Lines, Protection,or Mezzanine does anything for me at all.

Not into trip hop? I still am but there just is'nt anything out there. I hope the new Portishead record will revive the genre.

Yeah none of their other records sound like Screamadelica at all. You may end up hating all their records, but you can't really judge them just off Screamadelica.

Actually that pretty much sums it up for me.

I used to like Portishead and Tricky, but I don't think I'd mind if I never heard either of them again. They got seriously played out by the crowd of people I hung around with my first few years of college, and I was never really that into them.

Tricky's records just get worse and worse.
Manaxique will always be his best record.

PMT and that compilation record in between those (the one with bjork and neneh cherry on) are great too, but after that ... he went to work with the Chili Peppers and the dude from Live.

Bjork
Cibo Matto
Dashboard Confessional
Polyphonic Spree
Meat Puppets
White Stripes
Beastie Boys (mostly... I can take Paul's Boutique (of course), but otherwise....)

Agreed regarding Primal Scream. Not one of their albums sound alike.

I've had a hard time with many of their albums following Screamadelica. Which is actually one of my TOP albums Ever! Absolutely positively love it.

XTRMNTR is their most far reaching album of them all.

I don't think they are a band to hate, but if you like any aspect/element of music whatsoever you'll find something on one of their albums be it a song, that you will like.

Granted I don't like the direction this thread has taken, I think we all have certain types of music we're not predisposed to therefore it has ended up being a hatefest sadly.

I didn't start this thread with the 'Your Favourite Band Sucks!' sort of intent, my intent was more a "Why is X band critically praised, am i listening to the wrong stuff? etc." intent, with responses trying to convince me otherwise (see Primal Scream replies).

How can you hate the Smiths.

There's nothing like being a teenager, listening to Half a Person over and over while reading Salinger books.

Morrissey is about 6'1 and built like a brick shithouse.

I wasn't comparing their builds, I was comparing their attitudes/personas.

Well in that case in recent years Morrissey has flirted with skinhead imagery, been raided by police for openingly wishing the Prime Minister to beheaded, wrote songs about London mobsters, Latino gangs and professional boxers, been described as "devious, truculent and unreliable" by a High Court judge and currently sports a Thompson sub-machine gun on the front of his latest album.

Basically I think you are miguided in holding such as view.

There's not too many bands I hate, but there are those that are critically praised, I've heard one or two songs, not been impressed, and never felt the need to follow up on. Those would include:

Wilco
Sleater-Kinney
Pearl Jam
The Arcade Fire
PJ Harvey
most of today's rap artists (I know that's a cop-out not naming names, but aside from Outkast, today's rap bores me)
King Crimson
The Moody Blues (are they critically praised?)
Fiery Furnaces
REM (after Green, like someone else said)
Modest Mouse (yes, Rami, the guy's voice annoys me)
