never at the same time. still, the giants had barry bonds, who i'd venture to say is far more hated than joey belle and gonzo combined. whatever. i just don't buy this formula.

I'm not sure why the giants would be so well liked but I can't see why Bonds would matter much either.

(A) He hasn't played in 3 years and is in no way the face of that franchise.
(B) When his contract ran out, they didn't re-sign him and they really haven't done anything I can think of to celebrate his career there.
(C) If you think Steroids were widespread, do you hate a franchise because they had a player that used them?
(D) Bonds wasn't likable but beyond the steriods, he wasn't really that hateable. At least not on the level of a Curt Schilling, A-Rod, Carl Pavano, Clemens, Youkilis or any of a number of players that inspire serious animosity from fans.

really? what'd you just have to find one more red sox player to make a quota or something?

I have 3 current or former yankees on the list too. I actually had Varitek on the list but deleted him thinking it was a little excessive and unnecessary to the point. What can I say though, I'm a Yankee fan so I'm genetically wired to think of red sox first. I think Youkilis is a very good to great player who I admire for playing hard and getting the most out of his abilities. But on a personal level, he seems like a major douchebag. You can't see how a non-Redsox fan would think that? There's even a Yankee fan blog that's called FackYouk.

i mean, there's other guys on the sox that i'd put ahead of him in the "seems like a douchebag" category.
papelbon, j.d. drew, beckett.

Yeah maybe you're right about papelbon. As a guy who maybe plays 70 innings a year though, he has less of a chance to really make an impression though. I've never noticed anything with Drew or Beckett.

It's been drizzling all day and it's only 60 degrees right now.
Not a good night to go to a game.

Some friends of ours just had a baby. While it was in utero, I called it Jose Lima. Its kinda morbid to see "Jose Lima dead".

I had the same thought yesterday watching Ubaldo pitch his 27th consecutive shut-out inning. That dude could end up with an ERA around 1.00 on the season. His stuff is unreal.

Since you care so much about baseball that this is your first post in this whole thread.

Also, since I know it won't last:

I wouldn't get too excited yet. Last year, Zach Greinke had a 0.84 ERA through 10 starts, but finished with a (still great) 2.16 ERA. It even went as high as 2.44 in mid-August. There's still a lot of innings left. But yes, Jimenez has been awesome.

Armando Galarraga just got ROBBED!!! One out from a perfect game and the 1st base umpire fucks up the call. 2 outs in the 9th, and the Tigers beat the runner by at least a step at 1st. Ump Jim Joyce butchered this call - he should never call another play. Ever.

I'm just sick.

that might have been worse than denkinger's infamous blown call. i've seen the replay now about ten times and i'm still not sure what joyce saw to call him safe.

It's a shame, sad, unfortunate, and a litany of other similar adjectives. I'm sure the Tigers will appeal but I can't imagine anything will be changed.

This of course is going to raise the argument once again for instant replay in baseball.
