And by "perfect albums" I mean, I love every single song on both Alligator and Boxer

I listened to this today as well. As I've mentioned before, I'm not sure if I'll ever transition to full on fandom for The National but I liked this one probably more than the last couple and I could actually see playing this again. However, I wish I could hear exactly what it is that drives some of you to the brink to declare them the best band going. I considered this sentiment many times while listening.

I keep trying with this band. Every now and then I'll hear something that hits me right, like "Apartment Song", but then I won't find anything else that keeps my attention. This new album sounded easily deleted on first listen, but then the song "Anyone's Ghost" earned it a stay of execution. Now I really want to hear a decent rip of the thing.

It's that and "Terrible Love" that also makes me want to hear it again. That latter song stuck with me long after it was over.

listening to this for the first time today and on first impression I think it's very good. a continuation of a lot of the sounds and themes from the last album. definitely mellow, but still manages to pack a punch.

saw this band last night. the new songs don't lend themselves to the caterwauling buildups that the rockers on the last few albums had, so they kind of create a nice break in the show to catch your breath but they stick out too. Still, a great show. as I've gotten older, this band has gone from being my favorite band to being the only band I like.

nah, it sounds rough, but that's what they wanted it seems.

Yeah especially at the start it sounds mushy.

I'm liking this album, but there's nothing I'm really loving so far.

The lyrics are pretty average.

This, except make "Abel" the one song I legitimately like. Everything else is snoresville, but I'm gonna keep on giving them chances since the indie-rock/journo hive mind seems bent on making this band as big as possible. I should've listened to my dad and gone into sportswriting.

I deleted it last week after about 4 listens and way more effort than I normally give, probably for that very reason. I think I'm finally done with them.
