Not sure if any of you really care, but...
Just got this email:
Quote:
Dear Todd L.,

The Lala service will be shut down on May 31st.

In appreciation of your support over the last five years, you will receive a credit in the amount of your Lala web song purchases for use on Apple's iTunes Store. If you purchased and downloaded mp3 songs from Lala, those songs will continue to play as part of your local music library.

Remaining wallet balances and unredeemed gift cards will be converted to iTunes Store credit (or can be refunded upon request). Gift cards can be redeemed on Lala until May 31st.

Click here or visit Lala.com/support for more information, or to view Lala's Terms of Service.

Thank you.

Lala

That's what they get for moving away from trading.

Idiots.

It's actually what they get for getting bought by Apple.

and yes

I'm not sad about this because musicboomerang.com is an even better cd trading site for only $1 per trade

last 10 cd's received in April alone, all with complete artwork and discs in excellent condition:

Neko Case - "Middle Cyclone"
Roberta Flack - "Blue Lights In the Basement"
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band" remastered version (new/sealed)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Beat The Devil's Tattoo"
The Langley Schools Music Project - "Innocence and Despair"
The New Pornographers - "Challengers" (executive edition)
Somi - "If The Rains Come First"
Priestess - "Hello Master"
Scorpions - "Animal Magnetism"
Isaac Hayes - "Hot Buttered Soul"

I need to get back into trading cds. The problem is, I'm trying to minimize my collection...

My main issue is that means the end of Pitchfork's LaLa album player next to their reviews

Most people don't realize this, but if you trade something for something else, you actually end up with the same number of things.

Yeah. Hopefully they'll be able to replace that with something that works as well it has.

Thus, negating any minimization.

I realize that most people did not get far enough along in their math education to know what the "plus" and "minus" symbols mean, but you actually negate subtraction via a process known as addition. This process (and I won't go into detail) causes more things to be added to the total number of things. In contrast, when you trade some things for some other things, you can also remove yet other things thus promoting "minimization."

but the nature of the trading site causes your collection to be reduced when discs are in transit and by gaining credits

Come on Haq, you can do waaaay better than that. Quite frankly, I'm a little disappointed that this would warrant a response, since its obvious that I'm saying that I need to trade, however want to minimize my collection. Hence, the epic struggle.

It's odd that this post brought out Ole' Snarky Diesel from admin basement.

I went to law school. I think you did too. Your logic should be better than this.

Yes, it definitely takes a JD to figure out that addition is the opposite of subtraction.

Send a CD off to a trade site: minus 1 CD.

Receive a CD from a trade site: plus 1 CD.

Let me retort. You're acting like a little bitch.

I refuse to use emoticons, but let it be known that I'm just kidding. If you were here in my presence, I would tousle your hair or punch you in the arm.

What does it take to figure out this is a "who the fuck cares" situation?

You have that part removed when you go to law school.

All told, I wound up with a net loss using LaLa (by about 7 CDs). My "wants" were too obscure or collectible, I guess. Can't say I miss the ones that got away either....
