WTF? Which ones have you had? The IPAs? Those are the most common. I'm not big on them myself, but I never noticed any "fruitiness" when I've had them.

Raison D'etre is pretty sweet, but it's hardly what I'd consider fruity.

You must hate all Belgian beers and any wheat beers with the slightest hint of citrus.

No, Belgians are my favorites.

I should have specified that I meant the Dogfish beers where they added fruit to the mix.

Alright, I guess I don't know which ones those are.

Raison D'Etre has been one of my favorite beers lately. Very malty.

Yeah, I wouldn't write off Dogfish Head based on those two.

i like the dogfish pumpkin most out of the few pumpkin beers that i have had, though the cisco (nantucket) one was good too.

This is actually a gold medal winning barleywine. You have/had a 2009 as the new batch (the award-winning batch which isn't any better/worse than 2009) is in 4-packs. Arcadia is a pretty meh brewery but has been better the last year or so as there has been a change of guard that is much more passionate about beer.

Good to know I was on target with the semi-guess. And the Smuttynose barleywine I had a few months ago was better, for sure. I should've had this in a glass, to be fair.

I love some hyperbole, but NO. No, no no no. Bad Tanner.

They're not flawless, and they're not for everyone, but you just casually compared Julia Child to Ray Kroc. I would suggest it's much more likely that you, Tanner, do not like any fruit flavor in your beer, than it is for the rest of the world to be swill-loving dopes for liking anything by Dogfish Head.

Back when Crack only posted about Dogfish Head, I was quite keen to try them. Bought a bunch when I was up in VA...not my bag. A higher end Sam Adams is a better comparison.

Oh god, which one(s) did you have? They literally make nothing that reminds me of SA.

I mean in that they all have the same kind of generic taste. I had the Raisin one (Raison D'Etre?) the 60 and the 90 minutes. All Bombers...none great.

Now I getcha. Those are all somewhat similar, I mean a little, in that the underlying ale is probably the same kinds of malts roasted similarly, I guess. As was said above, that particular grouping isn't really a wide enough sampling to toss them down the Sam Adams hole though. The one I had with wood conditioning, the Palo Santo for example, that was very different, and that black and blue... as long as you don't have a Tanner-like aversion to anything fruity in a beer, it's was really really good. This is some subjective stuff though, that's for goddam sure.

I guess I'm gonna have to try the 60 and 90 minute IPAs again because I don't remember them being anything like Raison D'Etre.

This is somewhat accurate, but I'd say that me not liking fruit added to my bear doesn't mean the rest of the world isn't swill loving dopes. But I should probably try Dogfish Head's beer flavored beers before I really judge them though.

All a good bear needs is a little salt and pepper.

I tried some Golden Monkey last night which was mentioned earlier in this thread. Very good. Definitely sneaky on the alcohol content.

Dogfish Right To BEAR Arms Beer is pretty good.

I was a little hesitant when I first heard about beer made with actual bear meat. But the gamey taste balances well with the hoppy notes in the end. Could be a little less malty on the front though.

had 5 or 6 of these last night. Really tasty amber ale. What Fat Tire wishes it tasted like.

not quite as good as the bourbon county but it's cheaper and the 11.7% gets to you.

i also had their Pere Jacques the other night but don't remember anything exceptional about it.

now i need to find this.

So I have a new laptop for home use, while we rebuild a desktop.

I went beer shopping at Brix in Omaha, this ridiculously huge wine and beer store.

Here's what I've tried so far:
Summit Rye IPA Batch 03
Van Pur Premium Polish
Mikkeller Single Hop IPA Nelson Sauvin
Mikkeller Single Hop IPA Chinook
Brasserie Du Ciel Rosee' d'Hibiscus
Brigand 1798 Belgian Ale

I've also been to tastings for:
Mikkeller Single Hop IPA Amarillo
Mikkeller Single Hop IPA Cascade
Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout with Intelligentsia Espresso
Franconian Gravity Keg of a Keller style land beer.

Busty and I had those 2 or 3 back 3 years ago when they first came out, the Perre, Matilda, and I think there's a third one? The lighter colored labeled ones. All of them were ok but neither amazing nor worth the price. So far the stouts from Goose Island are impressing me most.
