I'm jealous of the much longer encore TOK got. It sucks to see a band like the DBT's at Avalon because they make so much money of the DJ shows they have late night that they'll rush a band like the DBT's off stage when they'd gladly play longer. Otherwise, I was happy with the set list. Could have used a good cover thrown in but I'm not really complaining.

They used to do that at the GA Theater in Athens and it always annoyed the shit out of me.

That stopped in '98 when the bar curfew went from 4:00am to 2:00am. Bands would go until they shut the lights off if they could.

They can't serve after two here but they still get huge crowds for the djs. I assume a lot of people are using drugs. I guess the one cool thing about it is that they do start serving again once it gets to 6am if you can make it that long.

But it sucks to see a band there on a weekend because they rush them in and out. When I said I showed up late and missed a big chunk of the Henry Clay People, I meant I showed up at 7:45 pm.

Just bought tickets for their show on NYE in NYC at Terminal 5. Gonna be interesting. First time to NYC on NYE. For you locals, whats the best bet? People on the DBT board are saying about Newark.

Not many hotels around Hell's Kitchen (where T5 is located). Are you driving up?

Jersey probably will be your best bet for a hotel room around NYE...can't even imagine what prices are near Times Square.

Newark would work (you like Portuguese food?), but Jersey City and Hoboken will do the trick as well. I know in JC there is a Hyatt right next to the PATH train which would have you in the city (downtown) in 10 minutes. Not sure about hotels in Hoboken.

We're driving up. I think we'll probably do Jersey. A bunch of us from the board that go to shows together are gonna hopefully get a block of rooms. Sounds like the best option. Truthfully, its not outside the realm to go see the show and drive back...but who wants to do that on NYE?

You would really come all the way to NYC, only to leave after the show?

You can rent a room in an apt, in NYC, for the same price as a hotel. And have a bunch more room. And a kitchen. And a sweet spot.

Check craigslist, my buddy does it all the time. Stays at the place overlooking Central West for like $100 a night

Nah. That's only an option...albeit a very distant option. We're looking to book rooms with friends from the DBT board.

Hope you've screened them well. For example, one time I went to a Truckers concert in Athens where:
The chick who organized the whole thing and was supposed to drive passed out before we even left Atlanta
Two of the guys basically hot boxed the entire way up there
and me and the two guys I went with ended up staying up there entire night in our room after the concert, solving the world's problems.

Yeah, we've been to many shows with these folks. By the time this is all said and done on NYE we'll have gone to about 6 or 7 DBT shows with all of them--this year.

:rawk:

That's awesome, dude. The fact that you have a group to go with, AND that you have hit that many shows.

Having never seen the Dead in their prime, or traveled to see them, this is all speculation, but its kinda like that with Trucker fans. Its amazing at shows how many different states are repped. Our group consists of folks from MD, WV, CT, NY, PA and NJ. Though this last trip around we met folks from GA, TN, NC, and CA.

The Decoys opening for DBT tmrw night in Nashville

Quote:
David Hood, Scott Boyer, N.C Thurman, Mike Dillon and Kelvin Holly are The Decoys.

The Decoys are a five-man powerhouse rock n' roll band, featuring five of the most seasoned musicians anywhere.

David Hood, bass guitarist, was a member of the world famous Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, better known as "The Swampers", made famous in the song "Sweet Home Alabama". David has played on a list of albums that reads like a who's who of the music industry, such as Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, The Staple Singers, Paul Simon, Traffic, and many more. David was recently inducted, along with the rest of "the swampers", into the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville,Tn. Congrats, and well deserved.

Guitarist and vocalist, Scott Boyer, is renowned for his work with the band "Cowboy", who was on Capricorn Records out of Macon, Ga. That band, along with others, became the Capricorn Rhythm Section that played on a host of records that came out of Macon at that time. Scott also wrote the song "Please Be With Me", that was featured on Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard album.

Kelvin Holly has long been recognized as one of the South's premier guitarists. A long time member of Little Richard's touring band, and Grammy Award winning band "The Amazing Rhythm Aces", Kelvin has also appeared on numerous recordings and soundtracks with artists like, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Gregg Allman, Jimmy Hall, Little Richard, and many more.

N.C Thurman plays keyboards, harmonica, guitar, and vocals. He has recorded or played with artists such as Percy Sledge, Gregg Allman, Hank Williams Jr., Little Richard, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, and is currently touring with country music newcomer Gary Nichols.

Mike Dillon completes the band with timing and showmanship on the drums. Mike was a member of "The Dickey Betts Band" for two years. and was also a member of the Country Pop group "The Shooters" that was featured on CBS records from 87 to 91.

The Decoys was formed almost twenty years ago by veteran record producer, Johnny Sandlin (The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, Delbert McClinton). The band has grown to gain wide respect and recognition. "They're kinda like Muscle Shoals own house band, backing up anyone who comes thru town", to quote one record industry vip. The band recently recorded their debut CD, entitled "Shot From The Saddle", at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals and is avaliable at the given website. You can also hear The Decoys on the bonus disc of the DVD,"Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid", on a song penned by Donnie Fritts and Tony Joe White, entitled "One Foot In The Groove".

They were burned years ago for fear they would incite unsuspecting men to commit arson, rape and murder, all at the same time.

I should up THIS monstrosity for you guys sometime.

The accompanying book is where I learned that Dickey Betts songwriting partner in those days was one Don "James 'Sonny' Crockett" Johnson.
