Ponyo. Beautiful, imaginative animation. Some really breathtaking sequences in this as well as some great moments of understated yet perfectly detailed human animation that has gotten better and better in Miyazaki's films. But, as a movie, story-wise and everything, it couldn't have been much more slight. There was really no conflict whatsoever. It was sort of like Totoro in that respect, but my wife insists that Totoro was much better. This was worth seeing just for the visuals, at least.

Fear Of a Black Hat
A "mockumentary" about a fictional rap band called NWH (Niggaz Wit' Hats). Some pretty funny gags, but ultimately, as it's a note-for-note ripoff of Spinal Tap, it doesn't quite hold together as a complete film. For instance
Nigel's guitar collection: Taystee's gun collection
David's girlfriend breaks up Tap: Ice's girlfriend breaks up NWH
Old Tap videos: Old NWH videos

And on and on...

Still, as I said, there are some pretty good gags and, if you are a fan of 90's rap (gangsta rap, in particular), you may enjoy this one.

i thought the problem with the story to american audiences is it comes off as too much the little mermaid. it wasn't until after the fact that i found out it's basically an olio of japanese water-related folktales. but that scene with ponyo running along the waves is worth it alone.

i didn't get the full ponyo experience at an advance screening.

someone i know who took their kids told me that when the mom was asking ponyo and sosuke if they thought the generator would work and they both say "i do, i do", some kid in the theater yelled out "i do!"

I loved 28 Days later, so I'm not so sure what took me so long to get to this. I've heard 2 different takes on these movies, some people like the more cerebral quiet moments in the first movie and some go for the more action packed style of the second one, and I'd consider myself in the former group. The music and and the quiet moments were what made the tense moments that much more tense in 28 Days Later...this picture just seemed to be tense throughout. I liked it though.

I loved 28 Days Later and hated the sequel. Maybe I should watch it again though. If memory serves, both Idris Elba and Jeremy Renner are in this.

yeah, both are in it.

It's quite possible you were right for hating it, because they are two totally different movies...There were things I didn't like about it, but I was entertained by it for what it was.

Love the first one, never bothered with the sequel.

Watched Superman III on AMC with my five-year-old. You know, Michael Bolton may have been on to something.

Iron Man 2. i like origin stories, so i really enjoyed the first iron man movie. this one doesn't hit those highs. the pacing is especially off. this is more like what i expected the first one to be like - a big dumb summer blockbuster. nothing wrong with scarlett as black widow, though. and a nice post-credit teaser too.

I watched Zac and Miri make a porno. You can sort of tell they got this greenlit without a script. There are some funny parts (Justin Long's character provided most of the actual laughs) and once you get past some obvious contrivances -- these two people would be much more apt to be driving a 91 Accord than a 77 Oldsmobile or whatever - it was good for wasting 2 mindless hours on a mid week night.

Really great performances by Chris Walken and Martin Sheen, but the film itself wasn't all that exciting, creepy or intriguing in any way.

A Prophet - Great movie... good character development, can see a detailed account of prison turning you into a different person.

Caught this today. Great stuff. I got a little lost in how he ended up where he ended up. I think I lost track a little of who was being loyal to who. Minor quibble and probably just me not picking up on it. Also pretty interesting to see Arabs take large roles in a mob movie.

Makes me want to see what actually WON the Best Foreign Language Oscar last year if this didn't.

I'll definitely watch this again once it hits Blockbuster/PPV.

Exit Through the Gift Shop. Still trying to think of what to say about this. It was great, no question. Everyone should see it. Even if the bulk of it was completely fabricated (which I don't really think it was, but it makes you wonder, unbelievable as it is), it reinforces a lot of my feelings about the art world. And even graffiti/street art for that matter and its supposed authenticity. Definitely gives you some things to think about.

Yeah, not to be missed. In addition to everything else, it's probably one of the most entertaining documentaries I've ever seen.
