Watched No Crossover finally and thought it was awesome. Lotta shit I had never known before. Just top notch docu filmmaking. Possibly one of the best thing ESPN Films has ever put out.

On the other hand.......... "Silly Little Game" was a flaming turd. Possibly the worst thing they've done since casting Brian Dennehy as Bobby Knight.

i don't know if i'd go that far with "silly little game", but it was certainly the worst 30 for 30 yet. the first half could have been condensed into about ten minutes. the second half was interesting, but they needed to do far more explaining how football came to absolutely dominate the fantasy sports landscape.

I think the Bobby Knight thing was better than Silly Little Game.

last night i got around to "guru of go." i thought they did a pretty good job of making a film about paul westhead while understanding that a lot of it would undoubtedly also be about hank gathers. that segment on gathers is still brutal, just as bo kimble shooting the foul shot left-handed is still incredible.

Run Ricky run was interesting but probably made me more interested yet less sympathetic to the player.

That's why I thought it was great doc. He looked like a total self absorbed prick.

i was pretty into last night's installment: raiders' appeal to rappers, rappers influencing marketing trends, al davis' insanity, etc.

I had my doubts with Ice "Are We There Yet?" Cube directing but it turned out okay. Seemed to focus more on the hip hop culture. There was a clear disconnect with the players and the gangsta culture that made the logo stylish. A lot of those 70's/80's Raiders guys were animals. Wished they'd gone into a little more depth with them.

Also, Al Davis is fucking horrifying looking these days. Christ. Crypt Keeper with butter teeth.

I enjoyed it, but don't think Ice Cube did a great job integrating the two storylines. It came off as "Hey, the Raiders used to be in LA, and this kind of music was also happening at the same time and they used to wear Raiders logos!" The animation was a bit off too.

I almost went to see "The Two Escobars" yesterday as part of the LA filmfest. But between the appeal of sinking into the couch after spending 6 hours in a bar watching world cup and not really wanting to pay $10 for parking on top of a ticket, I skipped it. Pretty pleased now to notice that its on TV this week as part of the 30 for 30 series

The Two Escobars got into Cannes last year, so it should be pretty good

Listened to the podcast with Jeff Zimbalist and I'm beyond intrigued for the film.

I have found the idea much more intriguing than the execution on 75% of these. Therefore, if I catch them, I'll watch them, but it's not something I've made a priority.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty awesome, especially their use of "Bronson-vision" and "Oakwood" filters throughout.

Some of that stadium footage was just unfuckingbelievable, like when the riot police rappelled into the crowd.

Also the Columbian goalie aka Young Rick James with his scorpion kicks and shiny jeri curl.

Best.

That was the coolest thing that I've ever seen. And I couldn't believe that I recognized valderama seeing as I know nothing of soccer and certainly didn't follow it in the mid nineties.

*bump*

A bunch of these are available now (unfortunately not to stream) from Netflix. Just added the 5 that were available to the top of my queue. Been wanting to watch these.

I'm loving them on Netflix. Wish they would make them streamable, but I'm not complaining.
