The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle
Falstaff - Falstaff
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Harry Nilsson - Pandemonium Shadow Show/Aerial Ballet/Aerial Pandemonium Ballet

(there are no images of the Falstaff record that I'm listening to, but it looks pretty similar to their second album, pictured there. Makes no difference, really, but I like to state that for the record, as it is...)

While I'm not venturing into Album of the Year territory (yet), I just can't stop playing this record.

This is funny, because I used to be teased for bringing up bands that I "discovered" at Garageband.com or IACMusic.com.
Thing is, I DID hear these guys at Garageband about 10 years ago or so, and have dug them since first hearing them. (where's the Hipster icon?)

So, yeah, there are some cool bands at some of these sites that will eventually do something.

Listening to this now and really digging it.

Hear that, Sleigh Bells? Those are what you call "hooks".

I know they're different, but they've come out at about the same time, Sleigh Bells receiving way more buzz, etc.

And I dunno, I keep trying with "Tell 'Em" and "Crown on the Ground", and I still don't hear much in the way of real hooks. Not immediate hooks, anyway. They seem more concerned with sounding BIG than sounding memorable or catchy.

sleigh bells are on MIA's vanity label and are from Brooklyn. male bonding, while they're on subpop, are from the UK and i'm pretty sure no one would've heard of them if they weren't signed to that label.

besides, sleigh bells are basically rap-rock and what is that style of music but BIG?
