The local library in my town is nice enought to:

1) Have someone working at their acqusitions dept. who knows a shitload about good music; and

2) Not have a limit when it comes to checking out CDs.

In the past month, I've probably imported 50 of their CDs onto my computer. They're particularly deep in the R&B/Soul and Alt-Country departments. It looks like I'll be able to get almost all the Bloodshot records and the Stax singles compilation they've got. They've also got some left field shit that I didn't know existed. E.g. a funk mix done by DJ Shadow.

Anyone else have a good public library they use?

Yeah, I've gone to two of our branches and exhausted them pretty quickly.

When I die, I'm letting my friends/sisters root thru my CD collection, then the rest go to the libraries (if they'll take 'em).

Crap. I never thought of doing this before. Silly me. I've always signed the music out and then taped it or loaded it at home.

I think I'm going back to the library this afternoon. My sister-in-law is the library director anyway.

I think Fulton's is better and I am checking into this. I know they have a lot of Jazz and blues stuff.

Dunwoody branch is crapola, but I have occasionally found some "fun for a couple of spins, but I'd never buy" stuff.

I think I've said this before (somewhere in my tremendous amount of posts), but my library in NJ is great.

It's hooked up to all the other libraries in NJ...I can go online & do a search for a particular artist/CD. If it's available anywhere in the state, I can request it & it will be shipped to my town. My library will call me when it's in.

Some recent acquisitions: AC Newman, Tift Merritt, John Coltrane Box Set (Heavyweight Champion), Franz Ferdinand, Loretta Lynn, Delgados. Not to mention all the hole-fillers (Dylan, Lyle Lovett, Graham Parker, the Stones, etc)

After checking it out, the Peachtree branch(Midtown) is pretty tight. They had box sets, Rolling Stones, the Shins, 50 cent, tons of Jazz. Just some of the random things I searched.

The problem is you can't get a card there unless you live in Fulton county. If you don't it's $75.

The Buckhead branch doesn't have shit either.
