What do they touch on here? We use Google analytics a lot, was wondering what was covered beyond the graphs and stats they email you weekly?

It's not really a technical "here's how you set up goals and reports" type class. It's more theory... from my syllabus:

-Fundamental concepts of online marketing measurement and web analytics
-How to draw a line from overall business objectives to web site objectives
-How to derive true Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from your business for your web site
-How to use conversion frameworks to break success down into smaller, more manageable concepts
-How to use data to tell a story
-How to identify opportunities to optimize
-How to form and test hypotheses to drive continuous marketing and business performance improvements

As you probably well know, hits don't really mean shit. You want to be able to measure people's behavior on your website. So like yesterday, we talked about objectives and goals, and how can you achieve your objectives on your site, and we workshopped a couple of people's sites. For me, and what I do, the goal is to get people's information so we can follow up with them later. So using google analytics tracking code along with SEO/SEM, we drive people to specific landing pages, with the conversion being the user fills out a "request more info" form, very short and sweet, but we've captured their information so we can follow up later (my case is more of a lead generation case). In your case, you might have white papers or case studies or certain things you would make available for download, but maybe before they do that, they have to give you their information.

You can do more than graph and stats, and I think there are free tutorials online for that sort of thing.

And sorry, I shouldn't have said it's a GA class... it's a WEB analytics class, and we're talking about other programs available for use too (GA just happens to be free and most used). There might be tracking software available for your particular industry.

Sounds technical and boring and like something I'd pay someone to know for me ;)

The best thing about GA for us is seeing how people arrive at the site. It definitely goes up when we do blog posts and get links on other sites, etc...but I like that they show what people googled to arrive at the site organically, and what pages they look at.

Its best when the google me and then they look at the about us pages ;)

well, yeah, considering this is what I DO, it makes more sense to me. But likewise, too many people (not saying you) make decisions ("let's have a website! let's measure hits! let's start a twitter feed!") and they really have no defined strategy on what they're trying to accomplish. So yeah, while you could hire someone to help you with that, it's going to require your input and thinking.

btw, if you haven't looked into it already, there are ways to boost your organic rankings, but you'll have to pay me to tell you how to do that. ;)

Also, if this dude was in 'Nam, he's pushing 70.

And, if you think ads I make would be that far off message in terms of mentioning Facebook, etc, your files need some updating MONKGEEB.
