honestly, I wasn't kidding...its a great way to get yourself centered, have a little fun, and get outside your own head for a second. Haven't Indian Tribes used the similar Vision Quest idea for ages???

it always works in movies/tv...

Skip the 'shrooms and go straight for the acid. Although the only thing that I ever figured out was the 60's, tie-dye, and how cool glow sticks really are. It sounds like you just really need to decide what you want to do with your life, and where your priories are. I'm not sure if that's a mid life crisis, because thats where I am too, and I'm only 22.

why go for the acid? why get chemical garbage over natural hallucenogenics???

shit, get peyote if you can.

You like what you like. I haven't tried peyote, I don't think that it's that easy to find where I am, but it always sounded interesting to me.

Ahem. Peyote is much weightier than acid. Peyote is earth, acid is light. However 'shrooms and a bottle of Puligny-Montrachet and a small kitten that lets you wipe down the walls with her, is a nice combo. But I digress.

But I get satisfaction out of my family, some friends, etc.

Basically, the answer is, there is no answer.

This is true imo. One who can push it to the balance of limits of satisfaction(work, friends, family, security etc) one has around them can be pretty damn happy. Life, though, never easy and what dear ayah says . . .

AS far as PoD:

Kids need attention, Marriage needs attention, both need money and obstacles are always in the way, happiness is in between all that goes down and hopefully the security of hard work will pay in happy dividends in the end.

definition of happiness is wanting what you have. "what you have" never makes you happy unless you have learned to want it.

Just got home from a school concert... 11:35ish.

Read the whole thread, i'll read it again tomorrow, thanks for weighing in.

I'm going to take the trash out, and try and get some sleep because I've been pretty short on it, i'm usually 4 hours a night, but it's been alot of 40 minutes, an hour, 2 hours tops for a few nights in a row, and i can feel the insomnia setting in again.

I'm looking forward to not working through the summer, and working on my album. That'll be rad. Another band I'm in is recording with mike mccarthy producing, which will either be cool or end in tears.

Both my parents are teachers. I forgot to think about this fact when reading the thread, but for them the hardest most stressful part of the year was always towards the end with all the testing and paper work, plus with it being so near the end. I would suspect that something similar could be happening in your case. I would think that a lot of the problems will be solved, at least in the short run, simply by having so much time off during the summer.

I've held a job every summer except for one. This will be my second summer vacation since I started teaching 11 years ago.

I gotta admit, i'm looking forward to it.

I taught the first summer I had a full-time teaching job - and that was the last time I ever considered it. Take the time to figure things out - or , at least identify what needs figuring out.

One last bit, based on what I remember Deena saying when we last saw each other. She mentioned the general idea of wanting to maybe start her own business one day...? Let me put in a plug for not pursuing that at this point in your lives, just in case it comes up in conversations about how to be happier. Depending on the business type, it is as stressful or more so than having a kid... it should only be attempted from a place of marital strength and extreme stability. Otherwise it's likely to be gas on a fire.

Phil, this is worrisome, because if a hip laid-back cat like you can't relax, what chance does an uptight ninny like me have?

In all seriousness, I've had some close calls, mainly when I was getting divorced. If you need some perspective, my inbox is open.

I hung out with him for an afternoon at ACL a couple of years ago. I found him blunt, but I can relate to that characteristic, so in general, he was a little odd, but nice enough. Have no clue what he'd be like in the studio. He's produced some great records, so I'd say he's got the knack for getting out of bands what he wants.

Also, FT, excellent work on harry's new subtitle

This is the Acid Grandfather seek not and thow shalt not want answer that "smart" striving honkies like me would be better served to pay attention to.

Of course, I posted a new profile pic on FB and my brother wrote "Don?" in the comments - meaning Draper. And not because I am smooth or suave like him, but because I am building my own iconic-in-my0mind family existence on the one hand, and chafing against on the other.
