The tuck positions in that first shot are really cool, actually. Front runner guy is off the saddle and in front of it, and the one behind has his knees tucked waaay inside.

I've tried that before, and it's really f'ing hard.

Apparently, this was pre-empted on Versus, which cause much ire around the cycling community including Armstrong who tweeted about it to his bajillion followers. Cool pics, Finch.

When I used to try and catch the wife (her on a fast alu Trek road bike, me on a fisher mtn bike with knobbies) flying down long hills, the only way I could come close was to hang my ass off behind the seat post and flatten out that way. If she stayed sitting up straight I could keep her coasting pace without pedaling. If she leaned forward it was over.

Ha, that's funny, yet endearing that you try to keep up with her. ;) I've never been comfortable riding with my hands on the drop bars, but I will tuck my knees into the tube and lean over. Fastest I've ever gone downhill was coming down Bennett Pass on Mt. Hood, and I think I topped out at 40 mph. Scared the bejesus out of me.

Remember the canseco lesson- just because a guy is a scumbag doesn't mean he's wrong.

We rented some really nice new Felt road bikes in Marin last year and went up a mountain on them. It took like 2.5 hours and wore me the hell out. Then we came back down... took about 10 minutes. It was incredible - I told the wife "that's the closest thing I've ever felt to motorcycle road racing." I had to hang my ass off on the inside of the turns to keep enough rubber touching the road to stay upright. Road bikes have shit for lean grip! There were tears streaming back from the corners of my eyes the whole way down.

True. But I think Mike and Mike had a really good discussion going this morning as to whether he is a snitch or a whistleblower. Like Golic said, Canseco is different in that MLB didn't have a policy (or at least a good one). His accusations spurred on the creation of one.

Landis' accusations just sound like too little too late. The guy set up a foundation so that people could pay for his legal fees! So do the people who stupidly donated the half a million dollars to his fund get retribution? The guy is just a jerk. Not to mention creepy. The whole LeMond call situation was plain bizarre.

He has no proof, and therein lies the problem. Its his tainted word against the other's words. Even if this is true, the guy is a known liar and has no proof. If Armstrong/Levi/etc all cheated, no one has found a way to prove it.

Have you ever read about the bike races up Mt. Washington? Cannot even imagine. It takes time to even drive up that sucker.

Thanks, man. The best part of the day was going for a mountain bike ride afterwards on the trails around Auburn.

Here's my friend Steve (in baggy shorts :) ) high above the south fork of the American River. There're world-class trails in that area.

I wear baggys with compression shorts underneath when I'm mtbing. Just doesn't feel right with just the compression shorts.

I rode up it on my last bike 4 years ago. 'Some white knuckled shit towards the top there, with like a lane and a half for you and the oncoming cars to share.

edit: MOTORCYCLE, not "bike." jesus h.

Highest land wind speeds ever recorded (233 mph I think?)

It was a good 20 degrees colder up top than at the bottom. And I got cheated - clouds rolled in and I was in fog soup up there, instead of look out across several states.

Like track & field, I assume all these guys are dirty. As for lack of proof, Landis only got caught once, and I think it's pretty naive to suggest it was his first time. The guy doping Ben Johnson in '88 didn't dispute that he was dirty, he disputed how they caught him. The dopers are usually a few steps ahead of the testers.

Going from the lower level of the parking lot at the top to the upper level is like trying to ride a motorcycle up a ladder. Alllmost dumped it.
