Be straight up with your current boss and tell him you got this offer and it's so much more money, it is hard to turn it down.
I'd want to take that kind of cash, but my current job is very stable, they treat the employees pretty well, benefits are better than anywhere else, and bonuses haven't been bad for the 4 years I have been here. I guess I would need to be unhappy, or be fairly certain the new job would be secure for a long time before making the jump.

Looking for a counter is a fool's gambit. Rod, if you decide to go, go.

I wouldn't want a counter offer either. That will probably put you both in an awkward position if he gives you a big raise and you stay. He may feel entitled to work you more, or make you the first one to go if there are layoffs.

I meant be straight up with him about why you are leaving. It may leave the door open if you want/ need to return.

wtf? I don't get the ad. Is it because she won't help him use it? That doesn't make it sound easy to use.

Oh, I will say the looking for a counter is stupid if you're not willing to go. But, I did get another offer and told my current boss I was gonna take it. He told me to wait to sign anything and came back with an offer to keep me. I stayed put. But, I wasn't looking got play games and was really needing the extra money and would have walked. If I hadn't been willing to walk it could have been a really bad gamble.

You career is like poker - raise or fold. You are checking. You are a pussy and you don't want to move up, or you a corporate shark, ready to swim. Take your pick.

Or you're a really awesome public interest lawyer who eschews the trappings of middle class success! Thanks Haqqy Baby.

Why is it that people no longer understand sarcastic humour? It seems that everyone has become hyper-sensitive and completely defenseless when one makes a sarcastic joke. Seriously, people, simmer down...it was a harmless comment, no need to overreact.

I need new friends.

Archaic Torso of Apollo
by Rainer Maria Rilke
Translated by Stephen Mitchell

We cannot know his legendary head
with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso
is still suffused with brilliance from inside,
like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low,

gleams in all its power. Otherwise
the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could
a smile run through the placid hips and thighs
to that dark center where procreation flared.

Otherwise this stone would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast's fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you. You must change your life.

The backstory is that Paul Reubens had written a couple of scripts for new Pee Wee movies and no studios were interested. He still hasn't overcome his porno theatre wank off scandal and the studios questioned whether he still had a fan base. He and his agent decided to revive the Pee Wee Playhouse as a short run theatre producton to show that he still has an audience. I saw it when it premiered in LA and it was pretty great at least for Pee Wee fans. The audience completely ate it up. I guess there were demands for him to take it on the road. I doubt he wants to do more than the Broadway shows as he's said it is a lot more work than he'd ever imagined. I'd be surprised if he isn't able to sell his movie projects if the Broadway shows are a success.

If anyone in NYC is interested, there is a presale with the password "GLOBEY"

He's apparently been close a few times with the films. I think it has to do more with the fact that he wants to do rated R Pee Wee films. In that aspect, its a gamble for most studios. Considering the scandals of today's stars, Reubens' exploits are both ancient history and tame.
