No, but I ordered it yesterday. Getting some very strong reviews. She's one of those that I don't feel like I'm gambling when i buy her stuff unheard.

On a related note, anybody run across this?

A third solo album from former Everything But the Girl singer Tracey Thorn. Album produced by Ewan Pearson. It features a duet with Jens Lekman on a cover of Lee Hazlewood's "Come on Home to Me", as well as appearances from Cortney Tidwell and members of Hot Chip and the Invisible.

This is really good. I'm always leery of nu-wave jazz singers because I'm afraid I'm signing up for a Maxwell record or something. Definitely not the case here. James has such a rich voice. Hope people take notice of this guy's abilities. He's coming to DC in June. I'm considering.

You're gonna like it. It's the first album I've really liked this year not that I've really heard a lot. Still need to check out that Teenage Fanclub.

I've really liked everything else she's done to this point, so I expect this one will fall into place. Guess I'm going to have to order that Hank III next.

Finally got around to giving that Tame Impala a couple of spins...more like Lame Impala.

Seriously though, it's ok but two things jumped out at me immediately: 1. The drums are mixed annoyingly high. Like I know they were shooting for a Revolver meets Elephant 6 sound palette but they pushed the drums too far over the top. At least they sound good. 2. There's some painfully derivative stuff on it that really doesn't mix with the stronger parts. Like, don't try and sell me that there's anything new or exciting here. It is what it is.

To each his own though and I'm definitely going to play it more.

The Samps - The Samps - 2010 [Mexican Summer]

From the label:

"A hidden agenda from members of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, the Samps toe over the chillwave divide into legit, spaced out R&B dance jams, clipped together from uncharted sources and designed to insert the boogie back in your butt. Five tracks of computer funq, jittery rhythms, and heavy synth bass abuse, ready for the dancefloor in your room."
