Pee-Wee's Big Adventure still holds up well. That movie is hilarious.

It does. I have it on DVD, and watch it once in awhile. Its timeless because of the world he lived in. Though, the BMX stuff now looks a little wonky...oh, and the older bro from Wonder Years is still a kid which is weird as well.

The backstory is that Paul Reubens had written a couple of scripts for new Pee Wee movies and no studios were interested. He still hasn't overcome his porno theatre wank off scandal and the studios questioned whether he still had a fan base. He and his agent decided to revive the Pee Wee Playhouse as a short run theatre producton to show that he still has an audience. I saw it when it premiered in LA and it was pretty great at least for Pee Wee fans. The audience completely ate it up. I guess there were demands for him to take it on the road. I doubt he wants to do more than the Broadway shows as he's said it is a lot more work than he'd ever imagined. I'd be surprised if he isn't able to sell his movie projects if the Broadway shows are a success.

If anyone in NYC is interested, there is a presale with the password "GLOBEY"

He's apparently been close a few times with the films. I think it has to do more with the fact that he wants to do rated R Pee Wee films. In that aspect, its a gamble for most studios. Considering the scandals of today's stars, Reubens' exploits are both ancient history and tame.

Well the whole Pee Wee character has its origin in Paul Reuben's comedy club act. I don't know whether the scripts would be R or not. He did say they were a little different than the original movies. I accept the idea that his exploits are ancient history but they caused his long hiatus and its now the long haitus that is his problem in pitching the ideas. No one was sure if he still had a following or not. At least that was what Reubens said in all the pre-production promotional interviews he did here in December and January.

Yup, and then those club acts migrated to cable. He's said in interviews he's been plotting more "adult" rated R Pee Wee films since the beginning. Its also that he's been fine-tuning. True, there is a some doubt to his popularity, but the crowd that grew up with his kids show/movies--we're now in our 30s. He's right to strike now, when there's a nostalgia factor. Heck, I picked up vol. 2 of the PW Playhouse DVDs when they were on sale for $5. I'd plunk down for a movie.

Watching "Crazy Heart" at the moment. So far, so good. Maggie Gyllenhaal.... I never can figure out if she's actually really attractive or really strange looking. Maybe that's good that she's somewhere in between.

Got the hairs highlighted today, and I'm worried I'm too blonde now. Hell, at least it covers some of the gray. Add that to the fact that my hair guy kinda reminds me of my ex in terms of attitude, which bothers me a little, like maybe I should find someone new. I don't like the way he talks about his wife, and I've told him as much too.

btw... question for the artists/photographers here...

Been thinking about getting a DSLR camera (I've only ever had point-and-shoot before). I have no idea how to even work such a thing. First question: would you recommend a basic class, like a community college photo class on how to use the camera? Second question: do you feel like composing good photos can be taught? Elvis Fu, god bless 'im, told me just to start taking photos all the damn time, which I do try to do (I carry a camera with me all the time), and some of my photos aren't completely terrible, but certainly not anything I'd enter into a contest or whatever. Just curious to see if you guys think that's a "talent" that can be taught, rather than something that's innate.

In the meantime, I can hear my lab, pawing at her dog bed in the other room, to get it "just so" for sleeping.

I think Fu's right WRT to the "just do it" school of thought. At least in the beginning. Just get lots of shots and try stuff. Then, if you have a somewhat experienced photog in your circle ask them to take a look at (A) stuff you like that turned out well (to see how it happened and what you did right) and (B) shots that are a little off for whatever reason (to learn common mistakes and fixes to keep them from happening over and over).

I just d/l/d hipstamatic and it makes all my shots look cool :p

And Dana - considering how much most women pay to get they hair did - if you're not happy with the guy, find someone else.

1) Really liked Crazy Heart, especially the music. Love "Fallin and Flyin". But, I never quite bought Gyllenhaal and Bridges as lovers. Too convenient. Minor quibble though.

2) If you are looking for camera recommendation I can forward you an email that I got from a pro photog friend of mine. I just went through this process helping FemDerris step-mom buy FemD's dad a super nice camera. It's very detailed and has some pretty helpful insight. He ended up getting a Canon 50d with some ridiculously nice lens.

I agree that I didn't necessarily buy the Maggie/Jeff love connection. And thanks, I'd love to see the recs from your friend!

Yeah, she and Bad Blake seemed a little too connect-the-dots for me as far as a cinematic love interest goes. That, and from a professional standpoint it bothered me that she kept writing a story about someone she was fucking. It happens, of course, but it's always bad for business.
