Wasn't really a comment on quality, more quantity.

All Stones related could mean upwards of 70 albums if you include bootlegs (Jamming With Edward, Black Box sessions, etc)

The thing about the band is they were sleazy from the beginning. Not sure if it was self fulfilling prophecy, Lil Elmo's Beat-A-Bitch penchant, or suburban Mick looking for his kicks and black tail, but they are already well on their way to JAIL here.

Love the Not Fade Away cover, and Route 66. Little By Little and Tell Me are fucking classic. Great start to an epic career.

Yeah as much as I pretty much hate BJ, he was the man during the early days.

I'll join in late '67 and ride it through '78. Let's do this. The "Stones in Exile" doc piqued my interest

Quote:
The evolution from blues to rock accelerated with the Rolling Stones' second American LP. They turned soul into guitar rock for the hits "It's All Over Now" and "Time Is on My Side" (the latter of which was their first American Top Ten single). "2120 South Michigan Avenue" is a great instrumental blues-rock jam; "Around and Around" is one of their best Chuck Berry covers; and "If You Need Me" reflects an increasing contemporary soul influence. On the other hand, the group originals (except for the propulsive "Empty Heart") are weak and derivative, indicating that the band still had a way to go before it could truly challenge the Beatles' throne.

I guess I could pick up with Out of Our Heads.

I plan on buying the earlier albums eventually and don't want to download them for this. (Appreciate the uploads, though, DJ.) I may d/l some later stuff like Goats Head Soup that I may never buy.

I really like Congratulions, and Time is On My Side.

Despite my general disdain for Susie Q, I like this version better than Creedence.

And of course, It's All Over Now is still a fucking classic.

'Time is On My Side' is still one of my favourite Stones songs, period.

I also don't care for the track
BUT
there is not a single aspect of the Stones version of Susie Q that is better than the Creedence version.
It's too fast.
It's too handclappy.
It's too forced.

Creedence laid that shit down.

I put this in the "before John got annoying" category.

Have you guys heard the original Dale Hawkins version. At least I think it's the original.

That's just silly. It's a great lick and that's pure foundation 50's rock'n'roll. What kills CCR is the vocals. The lick is a great combo of blues riff with a swampy stomp quality.

This like hearing only a crappy version of johnny b. Goode, hearing the berry version, and saying too bad I'm sick of this crappy version so I can't appreciate the berry classic.

I am a fogerty fan. But the vocals on Suzy q has always annoyed me. It's one of the few CCR songs I don't like.

I fucking LOVE CCR, but I just don't like Suzie Q too much.

Man, I'm jealous. I wish I could discover all these records again. I didn't really dig into those early records until late college. You should definitely check out "Out of Our Heads", "Aftermath", and "Beggar's Banquet" when we get to them. Beggars is the one that made me really look at the Stones in a light outside of Hot Rocks.
