I'm not saying he is handling this spectacularly by any means, but seriously does anyone know how to stop the oil? Aren't they pretty much trying whatever they can? I mean, president or not, he's not gonna be able to snap his fingers and come up with a new way to plug up a leaking undersea oil well. If there are methods we know will work and he is not using them, I will admit I am wrong but that is not the impression I have gotten from what I have heard.

I'm more pissed at him about still keeping us mired in the middle east after such a major part of his campaign was anti-war. And, still having Guantanamo open.

Personally, I think BP is to blame for the mess, especially for not having a plan in place (at least one to try) in case something went wrong. BUT, if Obama says something like "It's my responsibility for the cleanup" or whatever, then he better get his ass on it and get it done.

Wonder if you'd feel the same if you lived on the Gulf Coast. I don't think ANYONE has expected him to go put his thumb in the dike; it's environmental damage MITIGATION that has been non-existent, other than the half-hearted photo op shit being done by BP. Let BP handle the well plugging, but, contrary to the bullshit at yesterday's press conference, the Obama Administration has been as unresponsive as the Bush Administration was after Katrina.

Agreed. It has also seemed that the Gov't has been aiding BP in it's downplaying of this crisis. They refused to increase the estimate of leakage even though independent scientists were estimating 10x the number of barrels per day. They have dragged their feet on building sand barriers for so long, its probably too late now.

I'm also sick of hearing about how BP will pay for 100% of the cleanup. As if cash money will restore destroyed shrimp beds or replace sea marshes that are now open water. Money can't fix everything, and it annoys me that the government and the media always reduce a catastrophe like this to a dollar amount.

They're apparently using Locks of Love hair in pantyhose to soak up the oil. That is totally irrelevant but entirely fascinating.

Hasn't BP, over the past few years had some major safety oversights regarding their oil production processes? I remember maybe 4 years ago (?) they were in big trouble because something like a decade ago an auditor of sorts came and told them to repair some pipeline way up north, they never did, and then it began leaking all over Alaska or something...?

Sounds like there needs to be some hardline consequences for this sort of irresponsibility. Granted, I have nothing to offer in terms of what that should be, so I am going to go now. haha.

Exactly right. It seems to me that the Gov't is almost siding with BP regarding how much oil has leaked.

Also, the Gov't could have stepped in and done their best to protect the shores, but they have done nothing.

Like most disasters, there is tons of blame to go around, and BP and BHO are trying to place it at the feet of each other, while Rome burns, to mix some metaphors in a way that will make Haq get CHH.

And no, neither side is doing everything they can to stop the leak OR clean up the disaster. The Saudis have some kind of super-tanker deal that can suck up water and oil, which they have used to great success.

And Kevin Fucking Costner has some kind of centrifuge that he invented and claims works very well, but apparently BP and the government don't want his help because they didn't like Waterworld, and think baseball movies are overrated (remember this administration plays basketball, damnit!)

Of course, we all know that the real blame lies with Bush and Cheney, for A) relaxing regulations to the point where people in these departments were watching porn, fucking and doing blow with each other instead of bothering with their jobs, and B) sending all of our National Guard and Reserves to GARAQ and Assramistan, leaving us without a vital line of defense and clean up for national disasters.

And don't forget the American people, who are much, much more content to join facebook groups and complain on message boards than actually do anything productive.
