I find that often when I get movies out from Netflix that they will sit around unwatched for months but that doesn't happen with Television shows on DVD. It's much easier for me to commit to park myself on the couch for an hour than 2 hours.

Last 4-5 years, I've watched

The Prisoner (liked a lot)
The Wire (liked a lot)
Cracker (liked a lot)
Prime Suspect (Not Bad)
Keen Eddie (Pretty Good)
House of Cards Trilogy (Liked A lot)
A Touch of Frost Season 1 (Not Bad)
Mad Men Season 1 (Didn't Like)
Damages Season 1 & 2 (currently watching Season 2 - pretty good)

I'm running out of ideas of shows to add to my queue. Anyone care to recommend things?

I loved Deadwood. Probably my favorite tv show in recent memory.

Ok, i'm not really a fan of westerns so I may have a short leash on this one but I'm trusting you and adding it.

Saw a few episodes and didn't find it remotely entertaining

I'm a big fan of The Wire. 30 Rock is ok. I've never watched the Shield but I'm not sure I'm really interested. Watched a few episodes of Always Sunny in Philadelphia with my nephews who are fans but I thought it was pretty dumb. I've given up on Mad Men. My take on it is that its a style over substance soap opera that substitutes scenes of well-dressed men drinking in the office and cheating on their wives for any semblance of a storyline and it lacks a single likable character.

I've been meaning to check out Rescue Me. Its available though through instant viewing. Good recommendation though. Seems like something I might like.

That's unfortunate. Season 3 was great.

Looking over the descriptions on netflix, I'm going to have to agree with Shiv.

For dramas:
Firefly
Dexter
Sports Night
Freaks and Geeks
Generation Kill

I haven't seen it, but the HBO miniseries The Corner is supposedly a precursor to The Wire (written by Ed Burns, David Simon, David Mills). I'm interested to check it out at some point soon.

For comedy:
Spaced
Party Down

Rescue Me is the only series I watch with any regularity at all since The Shield folded up. Along the broad lines of Cracker and A Touch of Frost, in that they were all BBC productions at least, if you aren't already familiar with it, try a couple episodes of Rumpole of the Bailey. One of my favorite things on teevee ever- Leo McKern was a treasure in the role of Rumpole. I bought the box set, and really need to get off my ass and start watching it.

My wife and I just got through Sons of Anarchy. We liked it.

That's unfortunate. Season 3 was great.

Also, it depends on your definition of likable. I find Roger, Bert and Don all to be likable, even heroic characters who one could model their life upon.

What about: The West Wing? True Blood? - it's kinda cheesy but your chick will probably dig it.

Also does anyone watch Justified? Might be my favorite show right now.

I had Rumpole in my queue but didn't really know much about it. I'm bumping it up now. Thanks.

Great show but I've probably seen every single episode at least five times. I'll still watch it if its on tv but I don't need to get the dvds.

They are always filming that by my house. I've watched an episode or two out of curiosity as a result. It's ok I guess but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

Big Fan of Dexter. I know Generation Kill but am not that interested. I should check out The Corner. Don't know the others. Will have to look into

Keep 'em coming

Spaced and Peep Show would probably be in a top 5 of all time favorite comedies.

Black Books is another, though it wouldn't quite make it to top 5.

Has Breaking Bad been mentioned? I haven't seen it yet, but it's in my queue and I've heard nothing but good things.

Battlestar Galactica?

I'll second It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Deadwood as well.

It's hard for me to make recommendations to someone who shot down both Arrested Development and Mad Men...
