Man, the hypocrisy on the environment is staggering.

When fossil fuel pollution is coming out of a leaking oil company well it's all "boo, this is terrible, save the environment". When the fossil fuel pollution is coming out of your tail pipe its "yeah, this is great, I'm moving fast at no effort to myself".

Could it even be the indignation you feel over this is not so much care for the environment as a feeling that a finite resource is being wasted killing pelicans when it should be doing you good?

It's not like if they capped this thing a month ago, a week ago or tomorrow the the environment (hooray!) would be saved. That's not going to happen. It's fucked because of what you do every day.

There is not one person here gives a fuck about pelicans or the environment - if you did you'd sell your car, use public transport, become vegetarian, install brown water systems in your homes, generate your own electricity with solar or wind power and most important of all murder your children.

Spare us the hot air about how much you 'care' about the environment because frankly if you do you are filled to the brim with shit.

Not looking for a sermon, just thought I'd post the shirt. It's already been expressed that LA is in a catch-22 with this. we are very dependent on the oil industry for jobs, yet it's killing us. This has been the case for years. See Cancer Alley along the Mississippi River with all of the Petro-Chem plants. Please don't go holier than thou on me about the environment. If I waited for public transportation, I'd be sitting in my yard for years.

I've been on the Gulf coast all week in Florida and I can only say that the locals are acting out scenes from a yet-to-be-written Carl Hiassen book: rumors abound of oil showing up everywhere (even though it's not here just yet), there are shortages of seafood because they are already paying claims (and why would you work when someone is giving you free money?), disagreements over opening up closed fisheries, crazy concentrations of fish near shore, bars full of crazed locals carrying packets of new Canadian money and driving shiny new pickup trucks.

I figure in about two weeks they will have burned most of these towns to the ground.
