I'll be praying for your brother. Meningitis is scary, but it can be beat.

Wow, good luck man! My brother in law, who was in college at the time, came down with meningitis the week before me and my wife's wedding. We weren't sure it was even going to go on, because the doctors didn't know how serious it was, nor which strain it was, so we might have wound up quarantined. Luckily, it turned out that he had the strain that is not contagious, the one that apparently attacks when you are completely and totally run-down, as so often happens with college kids. Unfortunately, due to this, he missed our wedding, and we had to settle for a call to the hospital during the reception. He finally recovered, but it was slow. Today's he's easily the most healthy person I've ever known - this was a life-changing experience for him, for the better. He has no bad eating/drinking habits anymore, as a matter of fact. Pretty amazing.

My thoughts are with you, and I hope you hear some good news soon.

Hi

Thank you all for your concern.

My brother is concious again and breathing on his own but he is still being kept in the critical unit and is very ill. It sounds bizarre because he is still in a serious condition but we are all almost euphoric because we honestly didn't expect him to survive.

At the moment he can't see or talk but he knows what is going on around him and knowns who we are; the doctors said his memory might be affected so that is a good sign. His brain scan was fairly positive too and we are hoping that when the swelling of his brain comes down he will get his senses back.

They don't want any visitors tonight because he had a bad night last night being sick and agitated, so I have the day off. Hopefully the worst is over now and he'll make a gradual improvement.

Sorry, I missed this yesterday Darin, but I am glad to hear that things appear to be looking up.

All of my hopes and prayers are with you and your family.

Also, if all y'all have an extra prayer to throw out beyond Darin and his family: A great and old friend of mine, Bill Rice (he is an older fellow that I met in the self storage business many years ago but who still comes to my auctions with his lovely wife), was diagnosed with cancer and then during the subsequent operation, had a pretty serious stroke. He is recovering, but it is obviously a tense situation. Bill is a one of those ex-Army tough ass bastards and would probably kick me in the dick if he knew that I was even thinking about him. But dude is in bad shape. Motherfuckin sacrifice yo

Sorry to hijack, but I just wanted to throw out my positive thoughts and wishes to all of these folks and spread the obner karma as far as possible. You guys are always great with this stuff.

Y'all be safe out there kids. :)

He has made an amazing recovery in the past few days. He still can't see and I think he's a little bit depressed about things but I'm pretty sure he will make a full recovery now. He was even walking around his bed alittle yesterday.

Anyway, now that I'm confident he'll be OK I'm making my Obner comeback, I hope I've not slipped down the post rankings!
