There was supposed to be all sorts of weirdness at the RAF base at Machrihanish, a relatively remote location on the west coast of Scotland, close to the Mull of Kintyre (of Paul McCartney fame).

Although it was an RAF facility it was leased to the United States and, this much is true, used as a US Navy SEAL base.

If you believe the stories Machrihanish was used as an operating base for the top secret Aurora Project and the Navy SEALs were there to provide base protection.

There was in fact a huge spike in UFO reports across Scotland at the time (roughly the late 1980's and early 1990's) usually described as being black, triangular and traveling at great speed and this was inevitably linked to the mysterious goings on at Machrihanish.

Since the Aurora Project has also been linked to Area 51 you might say Machrihanish was the UK equivalent, although the base is now in civilian use and the American military left a number of years ago.

I'm sure typing 'Machrihanish Aurora Project' or 'Bonnybridge UFOs' into Google will provide a great haul of theories and stories and you can assess the validity of them yourself.

Since, as I mentioned, Paul McCartney's farm was close by to the base you might want to make up a 'The Beatles were Aliens from another World' theory and link it to the top secret US military presence in the area.
