I need to get some pointers from him.

Colin P's not even Colin P anymore. Dude's engaged, works pretty much all day everyday on an organic farm and is moving to Frisco in the fall.
And he's happy, which matters most of all.

These two thing will have an inverse relationship.

Friend slipped me this book to me, looks pretty qual.

7 The Mickey Mantle Novel

Book Description
In Peter Golenbock's shocking and revealing first novel, Mickey Mantle tells the hidden story of his life as a baseball hero, and asks for forgiveness from his friends and family. If the revelations in Jim Bouton's Ball Four were the first crack in the Mantle legend, then 7 smashes the myth to reveal the human being within.

Bestselling sportswriter Peter Golenbock knew Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, Jim Bouton, Joe Pepitone, and many of Mantle's friends, family, and teammates. While Mickey was a good person at heart, he had a dark side that went far beyond his well-known alcoholism and infidelities. In this fictional portrait, Mickey--now in heaven--realizes that he's carrying a huge weight on his shoulders, as he did throughout his life. He needs to unburden himself of all the horrible things he did and understand for himself why he did them. He wants to make amends to the people he hurt, especially those dear to him; the fans he ignored and alienated; and the public who made him into a hero. Mickey never felt he deserved the adulation, could never live up to it, and tried his damnedest to prove it to everyone. The fact that he was human made the public love him that much more.

This Mickey Mantle is revealed as a man who lived in fear--fear of failure, of success, of life beyond baseball, and of commitment. His was a life filled with sex, yet devoid of deeper satisfactions. From the alcohol-fueled good times and bad, to the emptiness when the party was finally over, 7 has it all.

Through the recounting of his exploits on and off the field, some of them side-splittingly hilarious, some disturbing, and others that will make your head shake in sympathy, Mickey comes clean in this novel in the way he never could in real life. 7: The Mickey Mantle Novel puts you inside the locker room and bedroom with an American Icon every bit as flawed and human as we are.

I always enjoyed Joey Crack's/Black Putin's contrarian response to the MONGERMONGERMONGERMONGERMONGER phase.

It was fun to agree with him, for once.

Scientists Study Ozzy

Remember the old joke about the end of the world and how only Keith Richards and cockroaches would probably outlive us all? Maybe the punch line should have been about Ozzy Osbourne.

Osbourne will reportedly soon become one of the only people on the planet to have his entire genome mapped as scientists attempt to discover how the human body reacts to drugs.

At one time the 61-year-old rocker described himself as a “medical miracle,” and recalled going on a 40-year bender when he would drink four bottles of cognac a day, “blacking out, coming to again and carrying on.”

Now, U.S. company Knome is conducting a test, costing approximately $40,000, to see how Ozzy has survived. Results are not expected for three months.

“Sequencing and analyzing individuals with extreme medical histories provides the greatest potential scientific value,” Knome’s director of research, Nathan Pearson, said.

We're now 4 years hence (which is pretty amazing) but that will forever be a week(end) for the ages. A perfect cocktail of a busted marriage, free time, misused grad school money and in no way giving a fuck.

Was up in San Francisco earlier this week for work and went to Amoeba. This was around 6pm on a Monday and the place was empty. 8-10 years ago when I lived up there Amoeba was always crowded, no matter the day. I wouldn't even be surprised if they were closed in 5 years. The Hollywood one still seems busy though (not that I go often enough to really know). Also, SF Amoeba is still the best.
