good point

i know it's ridiculous for me to do this, but looking at the world rankings, usa (14) is ranked higher than ghana (32) and either potential quarterfinal opponent: uruguay (16) or south korea (47)

I did this comparison as well just to confirm how ridiculous it is. France (9) qualified under controversy and then set a new standard for bed-shitting while Greece (13) lost to South Korea. Croatia, Russia, and Egypt (10-12) didn't qualify.

The grudge might get the US past Ghana, but the quarterfinal scares me. Korea's energy level is insane, and Suarez's cross to set up Uruguay's third goal against South Africa is my favorite play of the Cup thus far.

Slovakia leads Italy 2-1 with eight minutes left.
Those damn Slovaks better not shit the bed. I want the Italians to be eliminated.

If you put Donovan out of the game then the US could go a long time without scoring at this level. If I was Ghana manager I'd be drawing up a players rota for putting the boot into the guy.

Based on their performance against Germany I think Ghana look a little stronger than the US but they were rather careless in front of goal; they made a lot of chances but never really troubled the German goalkeeper. If Ghana can be more clinical in that department I think they might edge it into the quarter finals.

Ghana is going to be tough. If we get past them, we should be able to beat Uruguay or North Korea.

Has Ghana scored in regular play? All I remember are PK's.

Haha. If that happens you should show up in red, white, and blue face paint with an American flag cape and a six pack of Budweiser.

Really? Diego Forlan has been one of the best players in the tournament so far. Eigidio Arevalo has also impressed me. He's not a big name player or even the kind of player most people would even notice but he's been as good as anyone in the holding midfield position. I'd be surprised if he doesn't find himself at a European club before the end of the summer.

I have to concur with the Scottish gentleman, Uruguay is playing great right now and have yet to be scored on at this World Cup. Any team that can qualify out of the CONMEBOL (South American) region needs to be feared. Diego Forlan is a legitimate striker who has been absolutely dominating so far this World Cup and the Urugayans actually play lock down defense.

My prediction is a win over Ghana, and then we're done. Which isn't bad at all, but I'm really hoping this run can continue... I love the World Cup, and with the U.S. being still alive, it's been even more special.

Uruguay is a god team and playing very well, but they scare me less than teams in most of the rest of the brackets. Also, the US has generally fared better playing good South American teams than the European teams for some reason. We've had good results the last few times against Uruguay as well actually so we would not be afraid of them. of course, this is a different team and they are playing well. Just saying, on the whole, we are in a good spot. I feel sorry for Mexico looking at England, Germany and Argentina.

Let's hope so.

Plus I have actual real money riding on Argentina.

For the whole thing? I think that money is well-placed, though the Dutch look really good.

I've got two bets... one on Uruguay; I like the under-dog odds and I think they are peaking at the right time.

And Mexico. I just couldn't help myself. Heart not head.
