Does using a cover though negate the issue I wonder? Cuz I wouldn't take an iphone (or ipod, ipad, macbook etc.) out of the store without a shell on it.

So, we just spoke with Apple and got the straight dirt on the reception issues that have been plaguing users today... and it's a little surprising. In essence, Apple cops to the fact there are reception issues with the new iPhone -- namely, that if you cover the bottom-left corner of the phone and bridge the gap between the notch there with your naked flesh, you could see some signal degradation. Yes, you read that right: it's not a software or production issue, simply a matter of the physical location of your hand in regards to the phone's antenna. The company's suggested fix? Move your hand position, or get a case which covers that part of the phone, thus breaking contact.

WTF???????

Non issue. Just avoid holding it in that way.

In a followup email, Jobs then expanded with this explanation:

Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

Steve Jobs has been known to respond to emails and we were able to log into Samcraig's email account to verify the authenticity of the emails, so we believe these are real.

doesn't matter to me either way ... still a boring phone

EDIT: but christ, that's his best character. just looking at that picture cracks me the fuck up.

mine doesnt have the yellow thing. i believe that was the glue for the screen that was still a bit wet, but i believe it should fade away when its totally dried.

not a dropped call yet!

let us know if the dropped call issue is better over a longer period of time. my bro and i were commenting that we drop a call every single time we talk (both on iphones).

Why do you keep posting in the threads about these "boring" phones?

The more you say it, the funnier it gets, I have to admit.

Well...I've always had an interest in silicon valley companies and cool gadgets.
Smartphones have been around for AGES already.
Blackberries were rad... first iphone release was rad... but all the upgrades and the ipad are just seriously boring me.
Faster and improved versions of the same devices we've had forever.
There's a hype bubble. People that will only use it to make calls and text are bringing it up at lunch.
The marketing and brainwashing probably the most fascinating part of this. My 40 year older brother that JUST bought his first computer is asking me if I heard about how I can't hold the new iPhone. People are arguing on forums which phone is the smartiest.
I watch the keynotes like a mindless idiot. Yep, this phone does exactly what we suspected it would.

This changes everything?

I have no idea what I really want tech companies to release now. But it's not another boring phone.
