Georgia AD getting DRUNK!

ATHENS, Ga. -- University of Georgia athletic director Damon Evans was arrested Wednesday night in Atlanta on suspicion of DUI, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told ESPN.com Thursday.

Wright said a state trooper pulled over Evans' 2009 BMW and detected an odor of alcohol in the car. Wright said the trooper administered a field sobriety test and placed Evans under arrest on charges of DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Wright said Evans later refused to take a Breathalyzer test at an Atlanta jail.

Wright said a passenger in Evans' car was also arrested. Wright didn't have the identity of the passenger and didn't know why the passenger was arrested, and said the information wouldn't be available until an incident report was completed later Thursday.

A person at the Atlanta Pre-Trial Detention Center said Evans was released from the facility early Thursday morning.

Evans, who was named Georgia's athletic director in 2003, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

I'll never understand why people in a position like that even drive period, let alone drive drunk. You're the AD of UGA:someone will drive you anywhere you want to go

I'm curious to find out why his passenger got arrested as well. Could it have been a prostitute or underaged drunk girl?
I've got to give it to Stu, I was laughing hard after the jumbotron post.

Doubt it was that scandalous. Passenger was probably drunk-in-public or something to that effect.

Yeah, we only have drunk and disorderly or open container violations up here, so it is unusual to see a passenger get arrested unless they have drugs on them or their name comes up in the system for a warrant/parole violation.

Evans told the Georgia State Patrol officer several times he was the school's AD before he was arrested late Wednesday and charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane, according to the report. Also arrested with him was Courtney Fuhrmann, 28, who was charged with disorderly conduct.

"I am not trying to bribe you but I am the athletic director of the University of Georgia," Evans said, according to the officer identified in the report as M. Cabe.

The officer also said Evans asked to be taken to a motel instead of jail or to be let off with a warning. According to the report, Evans later said: "I am not trying to bribe you, but is there anything you can do without arresting me?"

In the report, the officer noted he found a "red pair of lady's panties between (Evans') legs." When he asked Evans, a 40-year-old married father of two children, what he was doing with the underwear, Evans said: "She took them off and I held them because I was just trying to get her home," according to the report. Come on Dave, I don't think they are being that self-righteous in response to this situation. When you have an image of a major University to protect, you can't have the head of your athletic department doing this sort of shit. Rule of thumb, if you are going to bang chicks on the side and you have that sort of position, you should get drunk at a hotel and have sex with her there.
