As much as I resented Germany for the quarterfinal match against the USA in 2002, I'm glad they hammered the Argentines 4-0 today.
This young German team will be a force to be reckon with for years to come.

There goes my money but I'm not too bothered because Germany have been the best team in the competition from their first match and I hope they win it now.

It's not been a great World Cup but in Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Muller, Klose, Podolski, Ozil, Khedira they have had most of the best individual players as well as a team spirit and organisation that's second to none.

Could it be a 'grudge' match final between Netherlands and Germany?

Germany played wonderfully... but something tells me that Germany is playing above its capacity and Spain still is building. I pick Spain next Wed.

this is gonna be totally a mental thing for sure. for that we may have a little advantage compared to spain.

what works out pretty well at the moment is that germany doesn't follow a strict tactical formula like more defensive or more offensive. on a good day it's basically the good parts of both at the same time.

on the other hand this makes it kind of unpredictable. I still remember the matches again serbia and ghana...

I'd expect Del Bosque to finally lose patience with Torres and replace him with Fabregas in the starting line up. Spain have looked better when Fabregas has come off the bench but right now Spain are clinging to survival on the goals of David Villa and it's always a dangerous thing to be completely dependent on one player, great as he is.

Xavi has been solid, and sometimes brilliant. And Iniesta has had his moments... Villa's goal yesterday was made possible by Iniesta. And Casillas is solid, calm and secure... But yeah, get Torres off the pitch.

The ending to the Ghana game could make someone either love or hate soccer. Either way, it was pretty amazing. Germany looked unreal in that game against Argentina. I think I am becoming a soccer fan, but the ties and shootouts need to stop. Sudden death overtime with no clock is the way to go.

I agree that they should reinstate the golden goal rule, but without additional substitutions during extra time, a no clock rule is asinine.
I personally enjoy shootouts, they are far more entertaining than the silver goal system we now see in extra time in which most teams play to reach a shootout.
I'm also fine with a draw during group stage rounds as well. There's no need to watch two bottom dwellers that wouldn't normally be advancing to the knockout stage play a 120+ minute match just so one team wins.

True that.

Also, I have come to loathe Mark van Bommel. Such a punk.

And Wesley Sneijder continues to have a helluva year.

At least Scotland can say we got put out in the qualifiers by the World Cup Finalists and possible Winners. Incidentally we absolutely thumped the Netherlands and lost 1-0 which kinda sums up this Dutch team - not great but functional and they churn out wins.

Fingers crossed for a Germany win tonight but Spain are a similar proposition to the Netherlands. Germany are my surrogate team but even aside from that it would be better to have a final with a bit of an edge and Germany v Netherlands would definitely have that.

Spain v Netherlands not so much.

yesterday was the only game of the world cup that i've seen and i made the bad decision of going out and trying to find a better bar to watch it at after a couple beers in 100 degree weather.
