At a press conference in Toronto this afternoon, Steve Jordan, CBC Radio 3 and Damien Abraham from last year’s winning band F**ked Up announced the ten finalists for this year’s Polaris Music Prize, celebrating the critic’s picks for best Canadian music of the year.

The ten acts/albums who will vie for the prize on September 20 are:

The Besnard Lakes – The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
Broken Social Scene – Forgiveness Rock Record
Caribou – Swim
Karkwa – Les Chemins De Verre
Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice
Owen Pallet – Heartland
Radio Radio – Belmundo Regal
The Sadies – Darker Circles
Shad – TSOL
Tegan And Sara – Sainthood

Nice to see Dan Mangan on the list.

Did the Carolyn Mark/NQ Arbuckle album win this last year? If not, the Polaris folks should drink cyanide.

No Rich Hope or Manvils either. So something worse than cyanide.

A sad list indead. I'd like to see the Sadies get the recognition, but otherwise I could care less who wins.

I'd say Caribou, and rather easily, but I've really only given a listen to Owen Pallet, The Besnard Lakes and BSS.

Caribou is the only one on the list I've heard but it is a whole lot of dull. I say that as someone who has liked some of his past work.

More like 2010 Polaris SHITlist, amirite?

I have only heard one album on this list.

Last year, I had heard four of them. Quite enjoyed the broadcast of the awards, though.
