I can finally watch this in its entirety -- if I want to of course -- on the Versus channel. Good stuff. HD too.

Would it be crazy to predict the same three on the podium again?

I hope Lance dopes his blood secretly better than anyone else this year.

I just find it hard to fault someone before they've been caught. It really stinks that we live in a world where if someone does well, and above others that they are automatically cheating in some way.

I agree. But Lance has been holding a smoking gun for a while now. There's a difference between hating to hate and being reasonable that someone cheated before he admits it. Like it was obvious that Barry Bonds did roids years before he was "caught." And so many had their head in the sand about that one too.

I still don't know what Lance has done (other than winning, and let's face it--getting sponsors in a sport that fights hard for them) to make it seem like he's holding a smoking gun. I feel like people want him to fail so they can say "see, told you so". I just don't understand that sort of attitude. I mean, how much cooler is it that someone won 7 TdF on by sheer will than if he was fingered definitely for doping? Are we that jaded that we'd find pleasure in one's downfall? And, automatically don't we have to start assuming that Indurain and LeMond were as well since they were more fit?

I'll eat crow if he ever is found guilty. But, until then I'm going to assume he did it by himself. Sure, it might be naive, but then again I don't have any other conclusive evidence that he has doped. There's been tons of accusations, but all have been found baseless. And I find it hard to believe that in the 100s of times a year that he's tested, spontaneously, that he hasn't slipped up if he was guilty. It makes no sense. Everyone slips up. Everyone gets caught in lies. If he is, then he's been the best liar and surrounding himself with the best liars and paying off the best liars for 10 years.

FR, I'm in no way rooting against him. Actually, I'm very much rooting for him because I generally like to see Americans beat Euros in Euro sports.

The sport is notoriously dirty, and to suggest that the sport doesn't historically have a problem is more than naive. You thrown-in: 1) secret relationship with known drug pushing italian doctor, 2) Numerous stories from former teammates first surfacing in 04' 3) 2 witnesses testifying under oath that Lance admitted to epo use to doctors in 96', 4) Samples from 99' tested positive under "experimental procedure", 4) Lance's refusal to really call out other dopers like Lemonde does, 5)Floyd Landis's accusations while not credible could be true ala Conseco

I'll admit that any one of these probably isn't enough. But taken together, it paints a pretty obvious picture in my mind. It's more than picking on someone for being great like you're asserting.

So, I don't really care about the sport and hope he wins. But I'm sure that he's been dirty the entire time.

Sure, its been historically dirty but so has the Olympics and people aren't as down about them.

1. The doc was acquitted by the way.
2. The one in particular--Steve Swart--was laughed off by the other Motorola teammates, and the paper that printed the story was later sued for libel, which it settled with Armstrong out of court. They had no proof.
3. Not sure if these are the same as the one that also deals with the wife as well.
4. Well, the first thing that rings off is "experimental", so therefore not tested for accuracy. The paper, in the same article as this accusation is taken, even admitted that the testing was faulty and that there were holes that had to be estimated.
4b. LeMond flip flops every few years. First he accuses Lance, then he apologizes. Then he comes back and says that he was threatened. Not to mention his dealings with Trek. I think its a lot easier to point the finger from the outside than when yr in the working machine. Lance smartly knows lockerroom mentality. If he starts fingering people, he's gonna get run off the road.
5. Sure they could be. But then again, he's been known to be a liar. He's also bankrupt and needs money.

Its hard not to sound upset or mad in tone with this back and forth, but I'm just into being informed. All of that is circumstantial evidence, and much has been proven otherwise not true. Like I said, there's a lot more holes on the guilty side than the defense. Also, if the Lance has the technology to mask his doping, why are his teammates getting caught. Wouldn't they want to mask everyone? There were even rumors last year of Contador doping (from LeMond).

You're choosing to be a believer, which I've got no problems with. Hope the dude beats down everyone.

The only entertaining things I've ever seen watching the Tour de France were the guy riding off the side of the mountain that one year and the girls who stand by the dude with the yellow jersey at the end of each stage.

btw, Matt, thanks for keeping this thread going. I've been watching but not as involved as I've been in the past. Cobblestones were hell today, right? I'm not a Lance hater, but I'm kinda over him now. Interesting to watch him work hard to catch up today. Other than that, not surprised Cancellara is in the maillot jeune right now (isn't that how the last 5 TdF's have started?) I'm all for underdogs right now... would love to see Chris Horner or Dave Zabriskie on the American side of things do some cool stuff. And Thor? Well, the Norwegian very rarely disappoints on those sprints.

Can't get past those goddamned "The Shack" logos on Team Radio Shack's jerseys. Last time I checked, Radio Shack was NEVER cool and will NEVER BE cool.

Cycling buddy of mine posted this on fb... "who should I support in the TdF?" Pretty funny, I thought.

btw, for the record, Greg LeMond is an asshole. I can respect what he did for the sport, but he's a bitter old man.

It was a blow to lose one of the Schleck brothers. Big fan.

Yeah, its been pretty crazy. He's showing a lot of moxy after that crash. He survived that huge one in stage 2(?) but didn't survive the next one.

That was one thing commentators were saying--he's going to have it for awhile. With the new rules this year, there are no bonus times to pick up slack. It makes things interesting, but kinda takes some of the fun out of it.

Thinking the same thing. The vintage jerseys are kinda neat, with the bubble letters, but the main ones--meh. How can a company that is on the verge of shutting its doors sponsoring this team?

TY for echoing this sentiment.
