What is the deal with these "doctor/patient" reviews. They are terrible! First Beck, now this:

The scale is reviewer-intrinsic. I doubt Ryan Pitchfork would look at a review and say "That number's too low - we'll have to fix that before we go to press"...

He leaves the numbers-fudging for year end/top 100 lists...

good or bad, it's still relevant. that's why I read it. I think the writing is often attrocious, but it's still one of the most relevant publications going, which is unfortunate.

last i knew he would change ratings. but that was a while back. it wouldn't surprise me if he did change scores though, it seems like a lot of music pubs do that.

Postscript to the "50 Albums of 2004" list:

Pitchforkmedia.com Wrote:
NOTE: In addition to simply ranking albums, a system in which writers could allot a certain number of points to their selections was also used. Those points are not included in the above lists.

I could count on my ten fingers how many times I have read Pitchfork. When I was done counting, the two middle ones would be left standing, as well. I found it to be a waste of time and moved on.

I think I'm worn out with complaining about their reviews. I stopped going to the site.

I am so sick of Pitchfork's humor (?) I think, "gee, I wonder what the new Beck album is like." Or, "I wonder what Bob Drake's music sounds like." I open the reviews thinking they'll answer these questions, and alas. Nothing. Just a useless number at the top of a bunch of words that make next to no sense.

The only reason I think I still go there is to find out when bands have a new record, 'cause I'm too lazy to find a different source.
