I think it was more about identity. Cleveland is aways being poo poo'd on. He gave them an identity. Something to be proud of. I think the criticism would be less harsh had he gone anywhere else.

Personally, I just find it mind-boggling that as a superstar you'd want to go be dorm buddies rather than establish your own legacy. Because now, he's screwed either way. If he doesn't win a ring, he'll be mocked. If he does, people will say he couldn't do it on his own, he needed Bosh and D-Wade.
