What is, in y'all's opinion, the best release in this genre?

Moritz von Oswald Trio - Live in New York [2010 / Honest Jon's / V2]

Earlier in 2010 Francois K recorded the Moritz von Oswald Trio live in performance at New York's Unsound festival. The results are laid out on a heavyweight gatefold 2LP also featuring photography of original artwork by Cosima von Bonin. For this special live show Carl Craig and Francois K join the trio, contributing modular synth and live effects respectively, on four extended sound & rhythm excursions. They maintain the heavily dubbed and improvised nature of last year's 'Vertical Ascent' throughout, developing pulsing sequences which slink between jazz, techno, dub, and krautrock with an unrivalled urgency and intuition. The recording also incorporates environmental sound from the club which, rather than detract from the show, lends a trippy mid ground perception to proceedings. Driven by Sasu Ripatti's controlled percussive clatter, the ensemble set a deft groove which is duly splayed into fantastical dub shapes by the men on the mixing board, daubing the surface with splashes of Sun-Ra infused cosmic interference and Can style tropical breezes. The effect is acutely psychedelic and dynamically dancefloor-orientated, in the most esoteric sense of the phrase. If you're familiar with their recorded output you'll be stunned at what they can do in a real-time, live situation. Very highly recommended—and strictly limited to boot.

and over what really

If you have to compromise yourself because you like it but hate beach/surf genre or those references then suffer the self hate for it. If not move on.

If pig farming becomes a genre(with "pig" in the band name [like wolf]) I'm not sure I'd be interested, but if the music sounds good to me I'll be all over it.

Ha! Sorry to have you indirectly associated with them. They were a 90's band whose singer, Jonah Matrenga, went on to do some solo work as Onelinedrawing, and they recently got back together. They fell under the "emo" tag, for the most part, but I never heard them as that really.

Band named in a contest where the only submissions were made by GAR, Bloor or Derris. Other possibilities: *OHG WEG WHIKE and J.P. Monger & Assoc.

*my poor attempt at taking up TOBY/Monty's legacy

The simple fact that she's standing on a beach with Jaill on the cover reaks of the irony.

good review in Pitchfork for that Big Boi? any thoughts on it yet?

i like it so far. there are some weak tracks like "you ain't no dj" or "be still", but what's good is pretty top-notch. i'm getting psyched to see him in a couple weeks.

Best Rap record this year so far. I used to dig Andre 3000 more, but the more solo Big Boi stuff I hear the more I think that he was the most talented member of Outkast.
