Had a random memory come back of watching a screening of THIS MOVIE at the Music Box Theater back in 1995 or so.
Studs Terkel was sitting next to me, and did not keep his mouth shut for the entire movie! He was on the crew (credited as "Our Man in Chicago") and kept commenting about this or that:
"Oh, hell!!! I remember that guy!!! What an asshole!"
"Well, that was a bitch of a day!"
"GodDAMN! I haven't thought of her in years!!!"

(And with every utterance, his wife would attempt to quiet him: "Shhh! Studs! Be quiet!")

I guess the man listened enough throughout his life that he was entitled to voice a few things of his own.
A great memory.

Poptodd = not a great memory

I thought that I posted that sometime before, but decided to post this in here anyway, because it was a random memory that came back, and it was this month that this random memory came back.
Random.

Although I do not dispute your point.

I commend her for sticktoitiveness. But yeah.

True, but he'd have died ten years ago if he wasn't such a procrastinator.

Radcliffe can take over for him. But obviously instead a writer of curmudgeon comics and social commentary, he can continue as an out-of-work curmudgeonly screenwriter.

I should have recognized there'd always be more work as an artistic parasite than an artist, huh?

I'm reading that as a dig on my chosen career as compared to yours? You could have chosen a better word if you were looking to insult via a self-righteous snipe. Parasite carries the connotation of doing harm, and I'm certainly not a hanger-on looking for personal fame by association. "Artists" need to make money to survive and I know you recognize that. Being perpetually grouchy is easily caricatured and you do a damn good job of it online, hence my comparison to Pekar.

By definition, a parasite doesn't necessarily harm its host. It NEEDS its host in order to survive. And if you were so fucking sensitive about your career you should re-read what your "caricature" of mine suggested. Fuck you.

An intelligent, moderately funny tenant who is possibly interested in me, has a good job, is responsible and, probably most importantly, is not a local, said he needs a salad bowl and is coming into the store tomorrow and I'm... dreading it. I think I've become too comfortable with being single.

How are you supposed to spend an extra hour on the street? Walking slower? Talking to people?

You can stay single and still have some fun with members of the opposite sex, no?

True, but this particular fellow has told me he "falls in love too easily" and while I'm not just automatically assuming I'm great enough for him to fall in love with (okay, I am a little bit), I don't think that's something I want to play around with.
